Box Score Utah Tech women's basketball held strong against a Big 12 opponent in a 91-82 loss against Kansas State on Saturday afternoon.
How it happened: Â The Trailblazers were able to keep it close with the Wildcats through the first quarter. A few missed attempts had the home side up by five points early on, but the Trailblazers were able to keep it close up until the end of the first quarter thanks to four made three-point attempts early on. After the first quarter the Wildcats were able to pull away to an 11 point lead and ended the half leading 31-20.
The Wildcats went on a run in the second quarter, out-scoring the Trailblazers 16-8 through six minutes. The Trailblazers were able to bring the game back a little closer but still trailed 54-34 at the end of the half.
The Trailblazers won the third quarter, out-scoring the Wildcats 24-23. This quarter was headlined by Maggie McCord and Breaunna Gillen who both broke into double-digit scoring to help narrow the Wildcats lead to 19.
To start the fourth quarter, the Trailblazers went on a 9-2 run. This helped the Trailblazers bring the game within 8 points with 2:36 to play after having five-straight made field goals.Â
The Trailblazers ended the fourth quarter out-scoring the Wildcats 24-14 and brought the deficit back to single digits, falling just 91-82 against the Big 12 opponent.
Leaders: Utah Tech had four Trailblazers in double figures and were led by Gillen who had 23 points. She went 9-18 from the field and went 3-5 from the free throw line. She also recorded three assists and added four rebounds.Â
Macie Warren had her fourth-straight double-digit scoring game with 15 points. Additionally, Maggie McCord had 14 points and Emily Isaacson had 11.Â
Amber Kartchner recorded seven boards for the team high. Macie Warren led the team with eight assists.

Comparison: Utah Tech ended the game shooting 46 percent from the field, 39 percent from the three and 81 percent from the free throw line. The Trailblazers had a better shooting percentage than the Wildcats.
The Trailblazers ended the night going 9-11 from the line. UT totaled 35 rebounds, 18 assists, 5 steals and 15 turnovers.Â
The Wildcats shot 42 percent from the field, 31 percent from the three and 74 percent from the free throw line. Kansas State totaled 45 rebounds, 21 assists, 9 steals and 11 turnovers.Â
Notes to Know: Utah Tech is now 3-2 on the season.
This is the fourth game this season Gillen has scored 20 or more points.Â
