2017-18 ACADEMIC ALL-PACIFIC WEST CONFERENCE LIST (PDF)

The Pacific West Conference announced on Monday its 2017-18 Academic All-Conference list recognizing a league-record 1,804 student-athletes for their collective academic and athletic achievements in the classroom this past season.

Dixie State University placed 148 student-athletes on the annual PacWest list, which is the highest single-season total in the program's 11-year conference membership, and is the sixth-highest total of the 14 full-member league institutions. Three Trailblazers posted perfect 4.00 grade point average this past academic year, including women's soccer players Nichole Mertz (Springville, Utah/Springville HS) and Gina Tedrow (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills HS) and women's track athlete Shandi Bastian (Sigurd, Utah/Richfield HS), while men's basketball player Austin Montgomery (Lilburn, Ga./Lakeview Academy) recorded a 3.99 GPA. In addition, women's soccer player Darian Murdock (Herriman, Utah/Herriman HS) and women's track athlete Sara Hinze each finished with a 3.98 GPA this past season. Overall, Dixie State posted a 3.255 cumulative grade point average for its 13 PacWest sponsored sports.

"We are of course thrilled with all of our athletic achievements each year, but the ones we are most proud of are the academic achievements of our incredibly dedicated student-athletes," said Dr. Jason Boothe, DSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "To have a department-high 148 of our student-athletes achieve this honor is fantastic. Their hard work in the classroom is their most important accomplishment towards achieving their ultimate goal of graduation. Congratulations to each of them on a job very well done."

Student-athletes who achieve at least a cumulative 3.0 grade-point average, and are eligible for participation or practice in their respective sports, receive Academic All-PacWest recognition.
