WBB: Storm Fall to No. 7 Colorado Mesa

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, CO – The Dixie State University women's basketball team lost a non-conference game to No. 7 Colorado Mesa University 87-53 tonight in Brownson Arena.

A night after picking up their first win of the young season, the Red Storm (1-3) could not overcome the efficiency of the Maverick (4-0) offense.

Dixie State managed just 18 points in the first half as CMU held DSU to 24 percent shooting from the field.

The Mavericks on the other hand scored 52 to build a comfortable lead into the second half. The Red Storm battled in the second half and matched CMU shot for shot. DSU finished the game shooting 31.6 percent from the field.

"With a team like Colorado Mesa, our defense becomes an even bigger deal," said head coach Catherria Turner. "We have to understand we have to show up to play on both ends of the floor."

Dixie State guard Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) played all 40 minutes and led the squad with 19 points by hitting five three-pointers. Haley Holmstead (American Fork, UT/American Fork) added her third double digit scoring performance of the year by scoring 13 points.

Rebounding was an issue that helped to give CMU 25 second chance points on 27 offensive rebounds. DSU was outrebounded 60-37 in the game.

"It is a process and we are now able to see what we need to work on," concluded Turner. "We will continue to work hard and get better everyday."

The Mavericks were led by leading scoring Sharaya Selsor, who had a game-high 23 points on 7 of 19 shooting in just 26 minutes.

Dixie State will not open Pacific West Conference action when they travel to Notre Dame de Namur on Dec. 5 and Fresno Pacific on Dec. 7.
