South Dakota Run Hinders Dixie State on Road (11/29/2008)

Dixie State Falls Victim to South Dakota 80-62



VERMILLION. S.D. – An 18-1 run over the final five minutes of the game propelled the host Coyotes of South Dakota over Dixie State College of Utah 80-62 Saturday afternoon in the DakotaDome.



Senior guard Deney Phommabout (West Valley CIty. UT/Hillcrest) paced all DSC with 17 points (6-10 FG. 4-4 FT) off the bench before fouling out. Fellow senior Lindsey Chettinger (Sergeant Bluff. IA/Sergeant Bluff). playing in front of a large group of family and friends from Iowa. chipped in 13 points including four three-pointers. Tanya Clark (Beaumont. CA/Beaumont) had a team-high nine rebounds with her seven points.



Dixie State (1-4) dropped its second game in a row while USD's win streak reaches six (6-1).



DSC battled back from multiple double-digit deficits. but was held without a field goal in the final 7:34. South Dakota scored the final 16 points to pull away from Dixie St.



USD held the halftime lead 40-30. Dixie started the game strong building their biggest lead at the 12:50 mark. 11-5. The Coyotes shot 50 percent from the field to catch and pass the ladies of Dixie.



Everything went right for Dixie in the first five minute of the second half. After a USD lay-up pushed their lead to 12. Dixie State went on a 13-1 run to pull even. The lead would see-saw until the crucial eight minute mark where USD pulled away.



Dixie State shot 36 percent from the field (22-61) and 27 percent from distance (8-29). The Coyotes shined shooting 52 percent on the afternoon (27-52) and over 45 percent from three (10-22).



Guard Shanae Vaifanua (Hurricane, UT/Hurricane) had a solid game with nine points. Courtney Boyd (Keokuk. IA/Keokuk) had eight points making only three of 13 shot attempts.



Dixie State resumes action Monday night. December 1. in Omaha. NE taking on the College of St. Mary's. Game time is 5:30pm Central at Lied Fitness Center.
