Utah Tech was done in by multiple big BYU offensive innings as the Trailblazers dropped their fifth-straight, 18-5, on Tuesday night at Bruce Hurst Field.
The Trailblazers (13-8/0-0 WAC) owned a 3-0 lead after two innings complete, striking for a pair of first inning runs on a towering two-run home run off the bat of
Ryan Kroepel to straight-away center field. The blast was the junior's team-leading fifth homer of the season.
Utah Tech tacked on another run in the second thanks to an opposite field RBI-single from
Kyle McDaniel.
From there it was all Cougars (10-9) as they answered with a seven-run rally in the third, then plated five more runs in the sixth to extend to a 12-3 advantage.
Utah Tech got two of those runs back in the home sixth when
Miller Durham connected for his fourth homer of the year, a two-run shot to right center that cut the deficit to 12-5.
However BYU clapped back with a run in the seventh and five more in the ninth to put the game on ice.
Kroepel went 3-for-4 at the plate with a walk and two runs scored to lead the Blazer offense, which rapped out eight hits on the night.
Utah Tech continues its three-game homestand this Thursday and Friday as the Trailblazers play host to Fresno State. First pitch both nights is set for 6:05 p.m. (MT).
