Utah Tech finished in a three-way tie for sixth place at the 56
th-Annual Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, which wrapped up play on Monday at the Eisenhower Golf Club Blue Course at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
After carding a 3-over par 291 in Saturday's opening round, the Trailblazers went out on Sunday and tied for the low-round of the day with an 11-under 277, which briefly vaulted Utah Tech into solo second place with several teams still on the course.
Utah Tech entered Monday's final loop alone in fourth place, and after a roller coaster ride up and down the top-10 of the leaderboard, the Blazers wound up firing a 1-over 289 to post a three-day total of minus-7 857.
The Trailblazers closed the event tied with both Utah State (287-286-284-857; -7) and Boise State (293-283-281-857; -7), 16 strokes back of team champion Idaho (283-283-275-841; -23). Gonzaga (285-280-286-851; -13) held off UC San Diego (287-279-286-852; -12) for runner-up honors, while both San Jose State (289-290-275-854; -10) and Nevada (295-277-282-854; -10) tied for fourth place overall.
Junior
Ashton McArthur paced the Trailblazers as he finished in a four-way tie for 14
th at minus-3 213. After opening with a 1-over 73, McArthur fired a collegiate career-low 4-under 68 in round two with six birdies. He then followed that up with a final round even par 72 on Monday.
Freshman
David Liechty followed suit, chasing an opening 5-over 77 with a collegiate-best 5-under 67 with seven birdies on Sunday. The freshman then closed with a 72 with five more birdies, which moved him into a six-way tie for 18
th at minus-2 214.
Senior
Tanner Telford posted a pair of 1-under 71s on both Saturday and Monday, which bracketed a 3-over 75 on Sunday, as he tied six others for 35
th at plus-1 217.
Meanwhile, junior
Jackson Rhees carded consecutive rounds of 72 to open his tournament, and penciled in the first of Utah Tech's two eagles for the weekend on Saturday. He then closed with a 2-over 74 on Monday to finish in a 15-player logjam in t-42
nd place at plus-2 218.
Sophomore
Frank Miao, who himself rolled in an eagle on Monday, shot rounds of 77, 2-under 70 (collegiate career low), and 4-over 76 en route to a t-81
st showing at plus-7 223.
Utah Tech will now enjoy a near two-week break before heading to NorCal to play at the Pacific Visit Stockton Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on Oct. 9-11, at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.
