Utah Tech came away with a third place finish at the 2025-26 season-opening Colorado State Ram Masters Invitational, which was played on Thursday and Friday at the Fort Collins Country Club in Fort Collins.
Utah Tech's third place showing on Friday is the program's second-best finish in the Trailblazers' brief NCAA Division I era, second only to their runner-up finish at the same event last season.
After opening with a 6-over 286 to stand in sixth place to begin play on Thursday morning, the Blazers caught fire on their afternoon loop, firing the low round of the afternoon with a 3-under 277 to vault into third place at plus-3 563.
Utah Tech got off to a sluggish start in Friday's final round, but managed to rally late to close out the event in solo third at plus-8 848.
Long Beach State (283-278-279-840; E) was able to leap-frog over the host Rams (278-282-282-842; +2) on the final day to claim the team title, while Utah Tech finished six shots clear of fourth place Weber State (286-277-285-854; +14).
Senior
Tanner Telford was one of only nine players in the 91-player field to finish in red numbers as he wound tied with three other for fourth overall at minus-3 217. Telford carded bookend even par 70s around a stellar 3-under 67 in round two, which saw him roll in of his team-high 15 total birdies.
Freshman
David Liechty (72-70-71) was solid in his first collegiate event, during which penciled in 13 combined birdies on his three scorecards, including six on Friday as part of a 1-over 71 to vault up two spots and into a six-way tie for 14
th at plus-3 223.
Sophomore
Frank Miao also got off to a great start on Thursday, chasing an opening 71 with a 67 on his afternoon loop to stand t-seventh after 36 holes. However a hard-luck 8-over 78 on Friday moved him into a tie with five others for 26
th at plus-6 226.
Meanwhile, junior
Jackson Rhees (79-73-68) rebounded from a tough Thursday with a 2-under 68 on Friday in a round that featured the team's lone eagle and two birdies, which allowed him to vault 31 spots into a nine-way tie for 39
th at plus-10 230.
Redshirt junior
Luke Schone (73-73-76), who was also making his Trailblazer debut, wound up tied with three others for 53
rd at plus-12 232.
Utah Tech will have several players take part in the individual portion of the Utah-hosted Wohali Invitational this upcoming Monday and Tuesday at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway.
The Trailblazers' next team event will again take place in the "Centennial State" as they will travel to Colorado Springs to play in the 55
th-Annual Air Force Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on Sept. 20-22.
