Utah Tech stands in the middle of the pack in t-fifth place after the first round of play at the 2025 Western Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships on Monday at the Wigwam Resort Gold Golf Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.

The Trailblazers wound up tied with Abilene Christian after firing an opening 14-over par 302, eight strokes off the pace set by Tarleton State, which fired a first round 6-over 294. California Baptist and UT Arlington are one shot back in t-second at plus-7 295, while Grand Canyon stands in fourth at plus-11 299.

Seattle U is two shots back of both Utah Tech and ACU in seventh at plus-16 304, followed by Southern Utah in eighth (315; +27) and Utah Valley in ninth (319; +19).

Junior Jenna Anderson and sophomore Samantha Phelan enjoyed solid starts to their week as the duo closed day one on the first page of the leaderboard.

Anderson was solid from start to finish, going out in 1-under 35 with one birdie and eight pars, including seven-straight pars to begin the day.

The junior duplicated that feat with seven more pars on the back nine before breaking that streak with a birdie on 17, which briefly vaulted her into the lead. However a hard-luck bogey after hitting a bunker rake on her final hole of the day dropped Anderson into a four-way tie for first place at 1-under 71. Anderson's 71 on Monday also broke a school record for the lowest 18 hole score at a conference championship.

Meanwhile Phelan went out in even par 36, highlighted by the lone eagle in the 44-player field, which she carded on the par-5 fourth hole. She also penciled in two total birdies on her scorecard en route to an even-par 72, which tied her with one other player for fifth place through 18 holes.

Freshman Maria Purroy Galan rolled in two birdies of her own as part of a 7-over 79 to stand in t-30th, one shot ahead of sophomore Mia Cesarek, who recorded a team-high three birdies on her way to a four-way tie for 33rd at 8-over 80. In addition, junior Jane Olson closed day one in solo 38th at 11-over 83.

Utah Tech continues tournament play in round two on Tuesday morning beginning at 8:50 a.m. (PT).
