Utah Tech opened the 2025 spring season on a strong note as the Trailblazers tied for runner-up honors at the Utah Valley-hosted Wigwam Preview, which wrapped up play on Tuesday at the Wigwam Resort Blue Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz.
Â
The Blazers' t-second place showing is the program's best-over team finish in Utah Tech's brief NCAA Division I era, and was the team's eighth top-five finish since its first D-I season in 2020-21.
Â
After Utah Tech found itself tied for third after opening with a 16-over 304 on Sunday, the Trailblazers improved by five shots on their second loop on Monday with an 11-over 299. That effort moved Utah Tech into solo third at plus-27 603.
The Blazers then came out on Tuesday and fired their second-straight 299, which was good for a tie with British Columbia (297-308-297) for second place at plus-38 902. Tarleton State (297-308-297-894; +30) led wire-to-wire to claim the team title by eight strokes.Â
Â
Junior
Jenna Anderson put together the best overall tournament of her collegiate career as she took home runner-up honors.Â
Â
Anderson was one of only two golfers in the field to post a red number in round one as she rolled in three birdies and 14 pars en route to a 1-under 71 to stand tied for first on Sunday. She then followed that up with another 71 on Monday, including birdieing four of her final six holes, and held the clubhouse lead by three shots heading into Tuesday's final loop.
Â
The junior (71-71-76-218; +2) penciled in four birdies on Tuesday, but a triple-bogey on 17 allowed BC's Grace Bell (72-73-70-215) to wrestle the lead and medalist honors away from her.Â
Â
Anderson's plus-2 218 score was her 54-hole collegiate career low and the third-lowest individual score posted by a Trailblazer this season.Â
Â
In addition, Anderson's runner-up result was Utah Tech's second second-place individual finish, and the 10
th-individual top-five in the program's D-I era overall. Anderson joined her teammate
Maria Purroy Galan, who was the first to achieve the feat with a t-second finish earlier this season at the Weber State Kelsey Chugg Inv'l (9/16-17/24).
Â
Meanwhile, sophomore
Mia Cesarek (77-78-71) managed to bounce back from a tough start by carding a final round 71 with three birdies on Tuesday to move up 10 spots on the leaderboard into t-14
th place at plus-10 226.
Â
Fellow sophomore
Samantha Phelan (81-76-71) also made a move on Tuesday as she rolled in five birdies as part of a 1-over 73 to vault 11 spots into a tied for 20
th at plus-14 230.
Purroy Galan (79-74-80) followed in t-25
th at plus-17 233, and junior
Jane Olson (77-78-79) tied for 29
th at plus-18 234.Â
Â
Utah Tech will head back to the "Grand Canyon State" later this month to play at the Western Michigan-hosted Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 21-23, at the Rio Verde Country Club.
