Utah Tech finished in a two-way tie for seventh place at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, which completed play on Wednesday at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
The Trailblazers got off to a good start, opening with a 3-under 285 on Monday before firing a 7-under 281 on Tuesday to stand in solo sixth place at minus-10 566. Utah Tech's 281 team score on its second loop tied for the second-lowest, 18-hole score to par this season, while the Blazers' 566 was the season's third-lowest, 36-hole score through six team events. Â

However Utah Tech closed with a 3-over 291 on Wednesday to finish tied with UC Riverside (291-282-284) at minus-7 857. Â

Charlotte (275-280-278-833; -31) rallied past Colorado Christian (275-277-285-837; -27) to claim the team title by four strokes, while Coastal Carolina (280-283-283-846; -18) placed third.Â

Junior
Tanner Telford paced the Trailblazers with his second top-10 finish of the season as he tied three others for sixth place at minus-9 207. Telford led Utah Tech and finished t-ninth in the 90-player field with 13 total birdies, five of which came in an opening 4-under 68 on Monday.

Telford followed that up a 3-under 69 on his second loop with three birdies and no bogeys. He then closed with a 2-under 70 with five more birdies on Wednesday on his way to his season-low tournament score.Â

Meanwhile fellow junior
Zach Felts matched Telford with rounds of 68 and 69 of his own, including three birdies and an eagle in round two. Unfortunately the junior battled through a 6-over on Wednesday to finish in a six-way tie for 32
nd at minus-1 215.

Sophomore
Jackson Rhees rebounded nicely from an opening 4-over 75 with consecutive rounds of 1-under 71, which helped vault him from t-64
th after round one into a tie for 39
th-overall at plus-1 217.Â
Freshman
Frank Miao, playing in his second collegiate tournament, was solid over the three days, during which he chased an opening 2-over 74 with back-to-back even par 72s to join five others tied for 43
rd at plus-2 218.

In addition, junior
Maddox Vincent (77-77-78) tied for 80
th place at plus-16 232, and sophomore
Ashton McArthur (79-75-70), playing as an individual, used a final round 70 to move up 16 spots to t-62 at plus-8 224. Â

Utah Tech will return to action in two weeks when the Trailblazers head to Bandon, Ore., to play in the Idaho-hosted Bandon Dunes Championships on March 9-11.  Â
