Utah Tech freshman men's golfer David Liechty has received a sponsor exemption into the upcoming PGA TOUR 2025 Bank of Utah Championship, which will take place this October 23-26, at Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah.

"We're excited for David to play in his first PGA TOUR event," said Utah Tech Head Men's Golf Coach Brad Sutterfield. "This is a tremendous opportunity for him, and it's also great recognition for our Trailblazer Golf program to have one of our own competing in the field. David had an outstanding summer with some fantastic results, and it's nice to see him earn this exemption through his play."

Liechty has played in all four team events to this point of the 2025-26 season is currently ranked second on the team in stroke average (72.08).

He has carded five par-or-better rounds over that stretch, highlighted by a collegiate career low 5-under 67 he fired during the second round of the USAFA Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational (9/21/25). In addition, Liechty has posted three top-20 finishes, including one top-10 showing at the Utah Wohali Individual Tournament last month (9/15-16/25).

This past August, Liechty became the first Utah Tech player in program history to qualify for match play at the 2025 U.S Amateur, which was played at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, where he advanced on to the Round of 32. He was also a 2025 Utah State Amateur semifinalist and won the 2025 Talons Cove Amateur.

In 2023, Liechty advanced the Round of 32 at the U.S. Junior Amateur, was the Utah State Amateur runner-up, and won the Copper Rock Amateur. Additionally, he claimed medalist honors at the 2022 Southern Utah Open.

Liechty is one of four Utah golfers to receive a sponsor's exemption to be a part of the 132-player field at this year's Bank of Utah Championships at Black Desert Resort.

"From day one, it mattered to us that this championship create real opportunities for Utah golfers," said Patrick Manning, Managing Partner at Black Desert Resort. "These exemptions are about showcasing local talent on a national stage and inspiring the next generation here at home."

"As title sponsor, Bank of Utah is proud to see local athletes get the chance to compete on a national stage," noted Branden Hansen, President of Bank of Utah. "Their determination and success on the course embody the opportunity and growth we strive to create off the course — helping Utahns build their financial futures, strengthen their communities and open doors for all of Utah. We're excited to see the community rally behind these players and cheer them on during tournament week."

Following its historic debut in 2024 — the first PGA TOUR event held in Utah in more than 60 years — the Bank of Utah Championship will return to Black Desert Resort in Southern Utah's Greater Zion region October 23–26. Tickets and VIP opportunities for the Bank of Utah Championship are officially on sale at www.bankofutahchampionship.com.
