Utah Tech will close out season at the 2025 Western Athletic Conference Swim and Dive Championships, which will be held this Wednesday-through-Saturday, at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston, Texas.
The four-day meet will be streamed live each day, with preliminary heats shown on the WAC International Network (
wacinternational.tv), while all event finals will be streamed on ESPN+ (
plus.espn.com).
LAST LAP: This weekend's championship meet will be the final one held by the WAC. The conference announced earlier this season that it was discontinuing its sponsorship of men's and women's swimming and diving following the 2025 championships.
Starting next season, Utah Tech women's swimming will be an affiliate member of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). Along with the Trailblazers, six other WAC programs will make the move to the MPSF next season, including California Baptist, Idaho, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado and UTRGV.
COACHING STAFF: Utah Tech alumnus Shawn King is in his second season as head coach of the Trailblazer program.
In his first season poolside at Utah Tech, he guided the team to its second fastest season in school history, breaking seven school records, while collecting three All-WAC honors. In addition, the Trailblazers combined to post 75% life best times in competed events during the season.
Utah Tech also performed in the classroom, as the team earned CSCAA Division I Scholar All-America honors with a cumulative 3.79 GPA.
Coach King is joined poolside by second-year assistant coach Colby Clark.
LAST TIME OUT: Utah Tech wrapped up the 2024-25 regular season with a number of season personal best times recorded at the UNLV First Chance Invite in Las Vegas this past Feb. 14.
The Trailblazers posted two event victories, beginning in the 200-yard IM with
Grace Benson touching the wall first at 2:05.12, which was the sixth-fastest time in program history and a team season-best time overall.
Benson would later clock Utah Tech's fastest season time in the 100 free with a second place 51.79.
Cera Mallory accounted for the Blazers' other event win, that being in the 100 breast with a season personal-best time of 1:03.91.
In addition,
Gabby Henry placed second in the 50 free with a 23.90 (season PR), while
Jordan Musselman took second in the 200 IM at 2:07.03, and
Sorina Rom took runner-up honors in the 100 breast with a time of 1:06.05.
In all, a 28 combined season best marks were posted in the Trailblazers' final tune-up before the WAC championship meet.
