Trailblazers Sweep Wildcats to Extend Winning Streak

Utah Tech continues to lead the WAC with a perfect 5-0 mark.

(Abilene, Texas - Oct. 11, 2025) - The Trailblazer volleyball team continued their hot start to WAC play on Saturday afternoon sweeping Abilene Christian at Moody Coliseum.

Earning its ninth sweep of the season, Utah Tech (14-3, 5-0 WAC) also extended their winning streak to six taking sets, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19 over the Wildcats.

Led by a career high nine kills from sophomore middle blocker Lusia Langi, the Trailblazers also got six kills from Tessa Treanor and five from Nana Asiata.

Three Blazers notched double-figure digs led by 11 apiece from Treanor and Kaleinani Watson along with 10 by Mya Laufiso.

Defensively, Casidy Fried led the way with four blocks, including a pair of solo stops.

How It Happened
A hard-fought opening set from both sides, the Trailblazers took a 16-12 lead after an Abilene Christian (8-12, 2-3 WAC) service error.

Three straight points for ACU cut UT's lead down to one, but a 4-1 run pushed the Trailblazers back ahead 20-16 thanks to a kill by Langi.

ACU responded with a 4-1 run of their own to cut the Trailblazers back down to one, but four of the final five points of the set went to UT capped off by an ace by Fried. The Wildcats got off a quick 9-5 lead to start the second set, but after winning a challenge, the Trailblazers were able to rally to tie the set at 10 after a set error by ACU.

Two points for ACU were followed by a 6-0 run for the Trailblazers that pushed UT ahead 16-12 and added a 4-0 run for a 20-14 advantage after a kill by Treanor.

An 8-4 run for the Wildcats cut UT's lead down to 24-22, but a kill by Fried thwarted any ACU comeback effort in the set. Leading from the outset of the third set, a kill by Langi pushed UT ahead 15-10 and a 3-0 run pushed the Trailblazers ahead 20-13.

The Wildcats answered with a 3-0 run of their own to trim the Blazers lead down to four (21-17), but that was as close as ACU could get with UT scoring four of the final six points of the match to complete the sweep. Numbers to Know
  • The Trailblazers held the advantage over the Wildcats in hitting percentage (.126-.116), kills (35-34) & service aces (4-0) while ACU led in assists (30-26) & digs (60-53).
