Utah Tech head women's basketball coach
JD Gustin unveiled the Trailblazers' complete 2024-25 schedule on Wednesday.
This year's non-conference slate features match-ups against three "Power 4" conference programs, two of which will visit the Burns Arena, along games against one in-state foe, one more vs. the Mountain West Conference, and two games as part of the WAC/Conference USA Alliance.
"This is a relatively salty schedule for a team like ours, with having so many new faces, Coach Gustin said. "That late November, December [non-conference] stretch is particularly challenging. But it's fun to have a couple of those big dogs come to the Burns Arena again this season, hopefully our community can once again come out and support. This is for sure our toughest non-conference schedule to date, and we hope it prepares us accordingly [for WAC play]."
Utah Tech opens its fifth season of NCAA Division I play inside the Burns Arena against Northern New Mexico on Monday, November 4. That game will feature a special start time of 11 a.m., as part of a special Kid's Day matinee for elementary school students in the Washington County School District.
The Trailblazers begins the road portion of their season three days later with a WAC/C-USA game at former WAC foe New Mexico State on Thursday, Nov. 7. Utah Tech then returns home the following weekend to host Stonehill College (Nov. 13) and in-state rival Weber State (Nov. 16).
Following that home date against the Wildcats, Utah Tech starts a stretch that will see the Blazers play four of their next six games away from home. That stretch begins with two road dates at Houston Christian (Nov. 21) and at McNeese State (Nov. 23).
The Blazers then come home for a two-game Thanksgiving weekend homestand, beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 27, with a marquee match-up against new Big XII Conference member and national power Colorado, which advanced to the 2024 NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16. Utah Tech will close out the holiday weekend with a Saturday matinee (Nov. 30) against Westcliff.
Utah Tech will play three of its five December games on the road, starting with the team's second trip to the "Lone Star State" to play at American Athletic Conference member and 2024 NCAA Tournament team Rice (Dec. 4). The Trailblazers then fly back west for a road tilt at Boise State two days later (Dec. 6).
The team will play two more non-conference games against Texas schools including its WAC/C-USA home match-up vs. UTEP (Dec. 14), and the non-conference road finale in Waco against Big XII and national power Baylor (Dec. 18), which also advanced to the Sweet 16 of the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Utah Tech will wrap up their non-conference schedule at home on Saturday, Dec. 21, when the Trailblazers welcome ACC conference member Pittsburgh to the Burns Arena.
Utah Tech then enjoys a near three-week break between games before opening WAC play with its fourth of five total trips to Texas for road games at UT Arlington (1/9) and at Tarleton State (1/11).
From there, the Trailblazers will play six of their next eight conference games in the Burns Arena, starting with Seattle U (1/16) and a renewal of the "Old Hammer Rivalry" series against Utah Valley (1/18).
Then after its final WAC trip to Phoenix to play at Grand Canyon (1/25), Utah Tech heads back home for return games vs. both Tarleton (1/30) and UT Arlington (2/1).
Utah Tech will make its fifth, and final, trip to Texas to play at Abilene Christian (2/6), before closing that stretch with home games against in-state rival Southern Utah (2/13) and defending WAC champion California Baptist (2/15).
The Trailblazers are slated to play four of their final six WAC regular season games on the road, though two of those games are in-state, starting with a return game at UVU (2/19).
Following a home date vs. ACU (2/22), Utah Tech travels in both directions on Interstate 15 for two games, starting with a quick drive north to Cedar City to play at SUU (2/27). The Blazers then pass back through St. George on their way south to Riverside to square off against CBU (3/1).
Utah Tech closes the regular season its final WAC match-ups against two programs who are leaving the league at season's end. The Trailblazers will host GCU in their home finale on Thursday, March 6, then they fly up to "The Emerald City" to play at Seattle U on Saturday, March 8.
The 2025 WAC Women's Basketball Tournament will be held once again at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on March 12-15.
New to the WAC tournament this upcoming season is that the opening round games between the No. 8 and No. 9 seeds in both the women's and men's brackets will be played inside the Burns Arena on Tuesday, March 11.
Season and single ticket information for the 2024-25 Trailblazer women's basketball season will be announced in the coming weeks.
Utah Tech finished its fourth NCAA Division I season with an 18-14 overall record. The 18 wins are the second-most in the program's fourth and final NCAA Division-I transitional season (19 wins in 2022-23). The Trailblazers also finished fourth in the Western Athletic Conference (12-8) and advanced to the WAC Tournament quarterfinal round.
