Utah Tech rode a pair of record-tying performances to post a fourth-place finish at the 2024-25 season-opening Utah Valley Wolverine Invitational, which was played this past Sunday-through-Tuesday at the TalonsCove Golf Course in Saratoga Springs.

The Trailblazers hovered around the top-five throughout the 54-hole event, opening with a 2-over 290 on Sunday afternoon to stand in fourth overall.

Then after combining to card a 10-over 298 on their second loop to fall one spot to fifth place on Monday, the Blazers rebounded with a final round 1-under 287 to move back up to fourth on Tuesday with a three-round total of 11-over 875, which tied for the second lowest 54-hole score in program history.

Meanwhile, Utah Tech's 287 on Tuesday tied for the second-lowest 18-hole score in program history, and the team's 588 total after 36 holes was the third-lowest in program history.

UC Irvine (283-286-284-853; -11) led wire-to-wire to claim the team title, six shots clear of runner-up UC Riverside (283-288-288-859; -5), while Santa Clara (289-285-293-867; +3) finished third.

Sophomore Samantha Phelan and freshman Maria Purroy Galan both shined their season debuts as the duo tied Utah Tech's 54-hole scoring record with dueling 3-under 213s to finish tied for fifth on the player leader board.

Phelan rolled in three birdies to open with a 2-under 70 on Sunday, which she chased with a 2-over 74 on Monday. The sophomore then rebounded with four more birdies as part of a collegiate career-low 3-under 69 on Tuesday to vault two spots up the board.

Purroy Galan, who was making her collegiate debut, matched Phelan's 70 with three first-round birdies. She followed that up with a stellar 3-under 69 on Monday with three more birdies and no bogeys, before closing with a 2-over 74 on Tuesday.

Sophomore Mia Cesarek co-led the team with 10 total birdies in joining three others tied for 18th at 5-over 221. Cesarek penciled in six of those birdies on her card as part of a closing 2-under 70 on Tuesday, which offset an opening 3-over 75 on Sunday, and a 4-over 76 on Monday.

Junior Jenna Anderson (75-79-74) also rolled in 10 total birdies over her three loops, including four in Tuesday's final round en route to a 2-over 74, which moved her up four spots into a two-way for 33rd at plus-12 228. Fellow junior Jane Olson (76-80-74) rebounded from a tough 36-hole start with a 74 on Tuesday to vault five spots to solo 40th at plus-14 230.

Utah Tech continues its fall season next Monday and Tuesday at the Weber State Kelsey Chugg Invitational. The 54-hole event will be played at Wolf Creek Resort Golf Course in Eden, Utah.
