Utah Tech wrapped up the 2023-24 season with a seventh place finish at the 2024 Western Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships on Sunday afternoon at The Rim Golf Club in Payson, Ariz.
The Trailblazers opened with a 24-over par 308 to stand in seventh after Friday's first round, then bettered that by five strokes with a 19-over 303 on Saturday, but could not gain any ground on the field. Utah Tech then closed with a 26-over 310 on its Sunday loop to finish at plus-69 921.
Seattle U, which was in sixth place after Friday's opening round, vaulted into third place on Saturday, then overtook runner-up Abilene Christian (+42, 894) and third-place Grand Canyon (+43, 895) to claim the WAC team title with a final score of plus-40 892.
Freshman
Mia Cesarek played steady over the three days, opening with a five-over par 76 on Friday. Cesarek followed that with a 6-over 77 and a 4-over 75 on Sunday to finish tied for 16
th at plus-15 228. Cesarek's strong finish to her first collegiate season led to her finishing the year with the seventh-lowest season stroke average in program history at 76.55.
Senior
Grace Williams found herself in the top-10 on the player leaderboard over the first two days, beginning with a 3-over 74 which tied her for fifth after her first loop. Williams was tied for ninth after a 75 on Saturday (+7 149), but was done in by a 9-over 80 on Sunday, which dropped her into a tie for 22
nd at plus-16 229. In addition, Williams wound up breaking the program's single-season scoring record with a 74.33 stroke average, and closed her career ranked seventh all-time at 78.27.
Sophomore
Brooke Gelinas rebounded from an opening 80 by tying for Utah Tech's low round of the weekend with a second round 74. Gelinas then fired a final round 77 to tie for 27
th at plus-18 231. The sophomore closed the season with the fourth-lowest single season stroke average at 76.31, and in the process vaulted to the top of Utah Tech's career scoring average list (76.31).
Freshman
Samantha Phelan carded rounds of 79, 77 and 78 to tie three others for 33
rd at plus-21 234 in her WAC Championships debut, and sophomore
Jane Olson (79-81-83) finished in solo 48
th at plus-30 243. Olson also wound up ranked 10th on Utah Tech's season scoring list at 77.14.
Utah Tech finished its fourth season of NCAA Division I play with eight top-10 showings in 10 team events, highlighted by a fifth-place finish as hosts of its Utah Tech Trailblazer Invitational in February (2/11-13/24).
