Trailblazers Even Their Series at Seattle U with 7-2 Win on Saturday

Jack Walker doubled twice and junior righthander Ky Decker hurled six solid innings to help Utah Tech even its weekend WAC series at Seattle U with a 6-2 victory on a soggy Saturday afternoon at Bannerwood Ballpark.

It was sort of a déjà vu start the Trailblazers (6-17/4-4 WAC), who found themselves in a first inning hole for the second-straight game after Seattle U struck for two runs in its first offensive frame.

Utah Tech managed to get one of those runs back in the third when after Connor Tallakson singled and Walker doubled to lead off the frame, Ethan Royal cracked the scoreboard with a one-out single to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Trailblazers took the lead for the good an inning later with four two-out runs. Tallakson singled to center to tie the game, then after Walker drew a walk, Ethan He lined a shot back up the middle to drive in two more runs to give Utah Tech its first lead of the series.

Royal followed with the third walk of the frame ahead of Hunter Katschke, who was issued the Trailblazers' fourth free pass that forced in another run.

Decker (W, 1-2) made that lead stand as he shook off the rough start to his day by limiting Seattle U (7-15/3-5 WAC) to just two hits from the second inning on. The junior also tied a season high with five strikeouts over his final five innings of work on his way to earning his first decision as a Trailblazer.

Utah Tech tacked on a pair of insurance runs late, the first coming on a Walker RBI-double in the eighth, followed by a Katschke run-scoring single in the ninth.

Meanwhile three Blazer relievers combined for three innings of two-hit relief and four more strikeouts to close out the victory.

The Trailblazers outhit Seattle U 9-7, with the bottom third of the order in Garrett Cutting (1H/1R), Tallakson (2-for-4; 2R) and Walker (2-for-3; R) accounting for five of those hits and four runs scored.

Utah Tech will look to clinch its first WAC road series win of the season in Sunday's finale beginning at 12 noon (PT).
