Utah Tech played to an 18-13 overall record this season, which included a 12-8 mark in WAC play. The 18 wins are the second-most for the Trailblazer program (19 wins last season) during

UTAH TECH VS. UT ARLINGTON: Utah Tech is 3-0 all-time in its brief series vs. UT Arlington, which includes a two-game series sweep this season.
The Trailblazers claimed a 72-60 road win in Arlington back on Feb. 3, which they followed up with an 88-69 home triumph three weeks later (2/24).
Two of Utah Tech's three wins in the series have come on the road, including an 87-70 road decision the first-ever meeting between the two sides last season (2/4/23).
FINAL D-I TRANSITION SEASON: Utah Tech is currently in its fourth and final season of its transition to NCAA Division-I status. The Trailblazers have played to a 62-117 (.346) overall record during their transition, which includes a 44-55 (.444) mark in WAC play.
FAST BREAK: The Trailblazers come into the 2024 WAC Tournament having won four of their last six games, and seven of their last 11 overall since the calendar turned to February.
ALL-TIME IN CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS: Utah Tech made its "WAC Vegas" debut last season when the conference announced that both the Trailblazers and fellow NCAA D-I transitioning member Tarleton State could participate in league postseason play.
The Trailblazers earned their first-ever NCAA Division I-era postseason victory in their 2023 WAC tourney debut win vs. Utah Valley (72-68; 3/6/23), before losing to CBU in the quarterfinal round (72-81; 3/7/23).
Utah Tech has made conference tournament appearances in three different leagues since becoming an NCAA program in the 2006-07 season.
During their Division II era, the Trailblazers made two Pacific West Tournament appearances in back-to-back seasons in 2012-13 and 2013-14, advancing to the semifinals each time. Utah Tech also made it to the semifinal round of the 2019-20 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament in its final D-II season.
HOME SWEET HOME: Since joining the NCAA ranks in 2006-07, Utah Tech has played to a 141-75 (.652) overall record in 216 games inside the Burns Arena, which included an 11-5 mark this season.
Under
Head Coach JD Gustin, the Trailblazers are 62-42 (.596) on their home floor and have won eight or more home games in six of their last seven seasons overall. In fact, Utah Tech's 11 home wins this season tied for the most during Gustin's tenure (11-4 in 2018-19) on the Trailblazer bench.
AWAY FROM THE BURNS: Utah Tech owns an 89-127 (.412) record in 216 road games since in the 2006-07 season. Under Coach Gustin, the Blazers are 32-59 (.351) away from home, which includes a 7-8 road mark this season. In addition, Utah Tech is 21-17 (.552) on neutral courts, 3-3 under Coach Gustin.
HEAD COACH JD GUSTIN: JD Gustin is in his eighth season at the helm of the Utah Tech Women's Basketball program.
Gustin has seen marked improvements in each season on the Trailblazer sideline, culminating with an 19-12 overall record last season, a nine-win turnaround from the previous season. The 2022-23 campaign also featured a 10-8 mark and a fifth-place finish in Western Athletic Conference play.
Utah Tech's 19 wins last season were the most in the program's current NCAA Division-I transition, and is the highest win total during Coach Gustin's tenure on the Trailblazer bench.
In Utah Tech's final Division II season, the Trailblazers played to an 18-12 under Gustin. The team also capped that 2019-20 season by clinching a berth in the 2020 RMAC Tournament, marking the first time the Trailblazers had qualified for a conference tournament since the 2013-14 season. The Trailblazers entered the tournament as the No. 7 seed, and shocked second-seeded Western Colorado in Gunnison, Colo., for a 65-60 win in the RMAC Quarterfinals.
GILLEN FIRST TEAM ALL-WAC X 2: Fifth-year guard
Breaunna Gillen was named first team all-WAC for the second-straight season this past Monday afternoon.
Gillen, who was voted as the 2023-24 WAC Preseason Player of the Year and was a two-time WAC Player of the Week honoree (11/13; 2/26), finished the regular season as the conference third-leading scorer (16.9 ppg) and led the WAC in assists (5.64 apg) for the second-consecutive season.
In fact, Gillen was the only player in the WAC to finish the season ranked in the top-10 in scoring, assists, rebounding (#10 – 7.25 rpg), field goal percentage (#5 - .466), free throw percentage (#7 - .764) and assist/turnover ratio (#3 – 2.11).
Gillen scored in double figures in 26 of the 29 games she played and started in, with nine starts of 20 points or more, highlighted by a career-high 38 points in a home win vs. UT Arlington back on Feb. 24.
Meanwhile Gillen recorded two triple-doubles this season, including a 14-point, 10-rebound and 11-assist effort in a road win at UTA (2/3), and going for 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 dimes in Utah Tech's home victory over PAC-12 member Oregon (12/19). In addition she posted a co-team high five double-doubles, four which have come in WAC play.
JUST MISSED 40: Gillen's 38-point day vs. UTA (2/24) was tied for the third-most points scored in game by a Trailblazer in the program's NCAA era, and was the most scored by a WAC player this season. In addition, they were the most scored by a Trailblazer player in the program's brief NCAA Division I era
Gillen connected on 13-of-21 from the floor with a career-best four 3-pointers (4-of-6), and went 8-of-9 from the foul line to pace three Blazer players in double figures.
She also finished four assists shy of her third triple-double of the season as she dished out six dimes to go with a game-high 10 rebounds, on her way to her 11th career double-double. She also picked off three steals and blocked one shot for good measure.
Gillen tied former Trailblazer
Haley Holmstead, who tallied 38 points in a home win over Holy Names during the 2013-14 season (2/8/14). Holmstead posted the program's top-five all-time single game scoring marks that season on her way to a single-season record 646 points.
GILLEN NOW NO. 1 ALL-TIME: Gillen (1,587 pts) added another career accolade to her ever growing list in the UT Arlington home win (2/24) when she surpassed the 1,500-point plateau, becoming the first basketball player, male or female, in school history to do so.
That achievement came on the heels of her becoming the school's all-time scoring leader for both men's and women's basketball one week earlier in the road win at Seattle U (2/17).
With her driving lay-in just 42 seconds into the third quarter in Seattle, Gillen moved past former Trailblazer men's basketball player
Zach Robbins (1,470 pts; 2009-14) to vault to the top of the university's career points list. Earlier this season, Gillen broke the Utah Tech women's basketball scoring record at home vs. California Baptist (12/6/23).
Gillen also stands as Utah Tech women's basketball's career leader in assists (551 – both M/W basketball career leader), triple-doubles (3 - both M/W basketball career leader), field goals made (602), field goals attempted (1,347), games played (120) and games started (97).
Gillen is also second all-time in program history in free throws made (307) and attempted (420), and she is third all-time in steals (132).
In addition, Gillen became the player in program history with 600 career rebounds, reaching that plateau right on the number with her final board in the closing seconds of last Saturday's win vs. SFA.
In October, Gillen was voted as the WAC's Preseason Player of the Year, and was named to the 25-player preseason watch list for the
Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year, presented by Her Hoop Stats.
Gillen was the lone WAC representative on the Hammon watch list, which included women's basketball student-athletes from 23 teams and 16 conferences overall.
MADDIE WARREN EARN SECOND TEAM HONORS: Redshirt sophomore guard
Maddie Warren collected Second Team all-WAC honors on Monday afternoon.
Warren finished the regular season as the WAC's fourth-leading scorer (16.16 ppg), and was ranked second in the conference in made 3-pointers (76) and eighth in field goal percentage (.425).
Warren started in all 31 games this season and scored in double figures in 26 of those outings, including 17 of 20 WAC games, highlighted by a career-high 27 points in a home win over Tarleton State (1/27/24). In fact, the sophomore guard led the team with nine 20-plus point outings overall.
She hit at least three 3-pointers in 14 games this season, including a career-high six in the Oregon win (12/19), which helped her earn WAC Player of the Week honors (12/26). Warren also averaged 4.9 rebounds a game, and posted her first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a home win over Southern Utah (1/18).
DALLAS SHOOTS HER WAY TO WAC NEWCOMER HONOR: Freshman guard
Calyn Dallas was named WAC Newcomer of the Week on Monday for her efforts in the Trailblazers' home sweep last weekend.
Dallas averaged 15.0 points on 58.8 percent shooting (10-of-17), including a hot 8-of-12 (.667) from 3-point country, in the Trailblazers' two wins. She also averaged 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.5 steals in her two starts.
The freshman tallied 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting with three 3-pointers, and collected four boards, one assist and one steal in Thursday's win over UTRGV.
Dallas then notched her second-career double-double with a team and WAC-career high 19 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's triumph over Stephen F. Austin. Dallas enjoyed on of her finest shooting performances of the season, going 6-of-8 from the floor, including 5-of-6 from the perimeter, highlighted by a dagger 3-pointer with two minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Her five 3-pointers tied a career high, while nine of her 10 rebounds came on the defensive end.
FROM WAY DOWNTOWN....BANG: Utah Tech has hit at least one 3-pointer in 261-straight games, which includes a season-high 21 treys in the Oregon win on Dec. 19, and a WAC season-high 18 3-pointers (18-of-41) vs. UTRGV last Thursday night.
Utah Tech reached double figures for the 100th time during its NCAA era in the win over SFA (13-of-29; .448), which was also the 17th time in 31 games this season.
Utah Tech also broke the school's single-season record for made 3-pointers with its first trey in last Saturday's win over Stephen F. Austin, a record that now stands at 322 heading into Thursday's game.
The Trailblazers have also broken the school record for 3FGA (923), and are on pace to set a new school record for 3FG% (.349).
The 21 made treys vs. Oregon were the second-most in a single game in program history. In addition, the Trailblazers combined to shoot school record-breaking 67.7 percent (21-of-31) from the perimeter on the day, besting the previous record that stood for nearly 12 full seasons (.611, 11-of-18 at BYU-Hawaii; 2/4/2012).
Meanwhile, Utah Tech's 18 made 3-pointers vs. UTRGV last Thursday eclipsed the team's previous WAC season high of 16, which was set in the Blazers' road win at, coincidentally, UTRGV last month (W, 91-55; 2/1/24).
In the 2021-22 season, the Trailblazers nailed a school-record 22 3-pointers in its 107-57 blowout win over LIFE Pacific (11/9/21).
That record was one of two 3FG school records to fall that night as the Blazers also broke a team record for 3FG attempted (51).
In all, Utah Tech has hit at least one 3-pointer in 469 of its 472 games during its NCAA era, which began in the 2006-07 season.
Two of the three instances when the Blazers did not hit a 3-pointer happened during the 2013-14 season (vs. Hawai'i-Hilo, 2/13/14; at California Baptist, 1/18/14), and the other came in the program's first NCAA season in 2006-07 (vs. UHH, 1/7/07).
Meanwhile, Utah Tech has surrendered at least one made opponent 3-pointer in 471 of 472 games during its NCAA era.
RELEASE - ROTATION - SPLASH: Utah Tech enters Thursday's WAC quarterfinal game vs. SFA
FOURTH-NATIONALLY in 3-pointers per game (10.4 3FGM/g) and
T-FOURTH in made 3-pointers (322).
In addition, Utah Tech is
THIRD in the country in 3FGA per game (29.8 3FGAg), and
t-44th in the NCAA Division I ranks in 3FG% (.349).
NEARLY A WAC RECORD: Utah Tech's 18 made 3-pointers vs. UTRGV last Thursday night nearly tied a WAC record for the most made threes in a conference game in league history.
Three weeks ago CBU broke the record with 20 made 3-pointers in a home win over Tarleton State (2/24/24). The previous record was 18, first set by former member Fresno State during the 2010-11 season in a game vs. Idaho, and then was tied earlier this season when Abilene Christian hit 18 threes in a game vs. UT Arlington (11/29/23).
However, Utah Tech's 22 made treys vs. LIFE Pacific (11/9/21) during the 2021-22 campaign is the overall record for most made 3-pointers in a game by a WAC team in conference history, while the Blazers' 21 made threes vs. Oregon in December is the most by a WAC team this season.
PERFECT 11: Fifth-year guard
Maggie McCord had herself a night in the win vs. Seattle U (1/4) as she set a school record by going 11-of-11 from the floor with four 3-pointers on her way to a career-high tying 26 points. She also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds to notch her second double-double of the season.
McCord, who was born in Kirkland, Wash., first tallied 26 points last year in a road win at, coincidentally, Seattle U (2/26/22).
McCord's shooting night bested the previous perfection record held by former Trailblazer
Megan Tidwell, who went 9-of-9 for 21 points in a road win at Chaminade (93-54; 2/4/09) during the 2008-09 season.
SINGLE DIGITS: Utah Tech's defense posted its seventh single-digit point quarter of the season in its road win at UT Arlington (2/3) when the Blazers held the Lady Mavs to just six second-quarter points.
Five of the seven instances have come inside the Burns Arena, including final three quarters vs. Bethesda (7/6/7; 12/16), and a five-point second quarter vs. Seattle U (1/4/).
The first road instance turned out to be historic as the Trailblazers broke a single-game record for fewest points allowed in a quarter when they held New Hampshire to only three third-quarter points in their win back on Nov. 22.
The Trailblazer defense limited UNH to 1-of-16 shooting in the period, this after the Wildcats missed their final nine shots to close out the second quarter.
Utah Tech's previous school record for fewest points allowed in a quarter was four points set three times - coincidentally all on the road. In fact, the last occurrence came last season in the Blazers' road win against Weber State (3Q; 12/17/22).
Meanwhile, the Blazers achieved the feat two other times during their Division II era, both in the fourth quarter of road victories at UT-Tyler (W, 75-41; 11/8/2019) and at Holy Names (61-44; 2/20/16).
DEFENSE BLAZERS DEFENSE (CLAP CLAP): Utah Tech goes into Thursday's game as the WAC leader (
t-41st in NCAA D-I) in FG% defense at 37.4 percent, thanks in large part to holding SFA (.286) below 30 percent last Saturday. Utah Tech also held both UTRGV (.300) at UT Arlington (.316) below 32 percent shooting in a road sweep last month.
In fact, the Trailblazers limited UTA to just 3-of-16 shooting (.188) and 4-of-21 (.190) from the floor in the second and fourth quarters, respectively, in that win.
Utah Tech has held six of 31 opponents below 30 percent shooting (all wins) this season. For context, Utah Tech only held two total opponents to under 30 percent shooting all of last season.

* - Speaking of her twin sister,
Macie Warren will miss the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign after suffering a season-ending injury late in the second quarter of the Blazers' road win at SUU (2/8).

* - McCord reached double figures in points for the 18th time this season when she went tallied 13 points in the SFA win last Saturday ... that effort came after the fifth-year guard poured in a game-high 18 points to go along with eight rebounds in the UTRGV win last Thursday night, during which she became the sixth player in program history to reach the 900-point plateau (928 pts).

PERFECT 6-of-6 at the foul line with the game on the line in the final 30-plus seconds remaining to salt away the big road victory.
* - Dallas notched her first collegiate double-double in the Bethesda win (12/16) with career-highs of 22 points and 15 rebounds ... the freshman went 10-of-19 from the floor with a pair of 3-pointers and flirted with a triple-double as she finished with a career-best six assists along with two blocks and one steal in just her second start of the season.

Catelyn Deaver also had a great trip back to her home state as she picked off a career-high five steals and tallied six points, three boards and a block in the Seattle U road win (2/17) ... BLAZING A TRAIL TO GREECE: In preparation for the 2023-24 season, Utah Tech embarked on its first-ever foreign trip this past August when the Trailblazers traveled to Greece.
The trip included tours of the Kallimarmaro Olympic Stadium, which was the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, the Acropolis of Athens and its museum, and a boat excursion to the Greek islands of Hydra, Poros and Aegina.
The Trailblazers won a pair of exhibition games while on the trip, the first came against the Amilia Peristeriou Basketball Club in a 119-45 on August 12, followed by an 88-68 victory over the Athens All-Stars on August 14.
Per NCAA rules, college teams are allowed to make an international trip once every four years. Additionally, the team is allotted an extra 10 practices in preparation for the trip.
NEXT UP FOR THE TRAILBLAZERS: The winner of the Utah Tech/UTA game will advance on to the 2024 WAC Tournament semifinal round and face top-seed California Baptist on Friday at 12 noon (PT) inside the Orleans Arena.
