Utah Tech closed out its home heavy opening stretch of the 2024 season on the wrong end of a 15-1 loss to UNLV on Tuesday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.
Â
UNLV (7-1) scored runs in five of its first offensive frames, including a seven-run sixth inning, to open up a commanding 13-0 lead.
Â
The Trailblazers (1-8), who were held hitless and only mustered four total base runners over the first four innings, got their first hit of the game on a
Petey Soto Jr. one-out double in the home fifth.Â
Â
Utah Tech managed to avoid the shutout three innings later when
Ethan He connected for a pinch-hit solo home run with one out in the eighth.
Levi Randall accounted for the Blazers' lone other safety with a sharp single to left field later in the eighth frame.Â
Â
Utah Tech will now head out on an eight-game road swing, which begins this weekend with a three-game series at Wichita State. Â
