Utah Tech dropped the middle game of its three-game WAC road series at UT Arlington, 7-2, on Friday night at Clay Gould Ballpark.
UT Arlington bolted out to a commanding 6-0 lead after three innings complete, plating one run in the second before erupting for five runs in the third.
Utah Tech (8-22/3-8 WAC) managed to get one of those runs back in the fifth when
Karson Irvin reached on an infield single, stole second and later scored on a wild pitch.
However the Mavericks (16-16/6-5 WAC) held the Trailblazers to just one more run, which came on a
Shane Taylor RBI-triple in the ninth, to send Utah Tech to its eighth loss in its last nine games overall.
Utah Tech actually outhit UTA 11-8, though the Blazers stranded 10 runners on the base paths.
Irvin accounted for a career-high three of those 11 UT hits, including his first collegiate triple, and wound up scoring both Trailblazer runs. Meanwhile Taylor also legged out a double as he finished 2-for-5 on the night to extend his career-long hit streak to 11-straight games.
Utah Tech will look to salvage the final game of the series on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. (MT).
