Utah Tech opened the penultimate homestand of its 2023 season on the wrong end of a 13-3 decision in seven innings against in-state foe Utah on Tuesday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.
Â
The Trailblazers (9-31) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, which started with a
Tyson Fisher single and a one-out
Garrett Cutting ground-rule double.
Mathew Ivancich followed with an opposite field single to right to chase home Fisher carrying the game's first run, while
Cayden Clark flew out to right center to plate Cutting.
Â
However from there it was all Utes (15-24-1) as they answered with 10-unanswered runs over the four innings to bolt out to a commanding 10-2 advantage.
Â
Utah Tech drew a run closer in the home sixth with a
Sean Keating pinch hit home run, but Utah countered with a three-run Davis Cop blast to stretch its lead to double digits. Utah would then retire the Blazers in order after the stretch to trigger the 10-run rule and end the game.Â
Â
Utah Tech continues its homestand this weekend with a three-game WAC series vs. in-state foe Utah Valley. Friday's series opener will start at 6:05 p.m., followed by game two on Saturday at 2:05 p.m., and Sunday's series finale at 12:05 p.m.
