Utah Tech finished in the middle of pack in fifth place at the 2023 Montana State Bobcat Desert Classic, which wrapped up play on Tuesday at The Golf Club at Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz.
The Trailblazers, who managed to stay in the top-five on team leaderboard throughout the tournament, opened with a 12-over 300 on Sunday to stand fifth after their first loop. Utah Tech vaulted two spots to third place on Monday after firing a school record tying 7-over 295, before falling back to fifth following a 19-over 307 on Tuesday to finish with a three-day school record total of plus-38 902. UT's 36-hole score of 295 also broke the school record.
Fellow WAC member Grand Canyon (289-291-283) led wire-to-wire to claim the team title at minus-1 863, 17 shots clear of runner-up Idaho (295-297-288-880; +16) and 28 shots ahead of third place Weber State (299-298-294-891; +27).
Four Trailblazers finished in the top-30 on the player leaderboard, led by freshman
Jane Olson, who bookended a pair of 4-over 76s with an even par 72 on Monday to place t-14
th at plus-8 224.
Freshman
Brooke Gelinas wound up one shot back of Olson at plus-9 225, this after she also carded a pair of 76s around a second-round 1-over 73 to finish t-16
th.
Meanwhile, junior
Grace Williams (74-75-80) finished in a three-way tie for 26
th at plus-13 229, followed by freshman
Corinne Lillywhite (74-75-81), who was in the top-5 midway through her second round before joining three others tied for 29
th at plus-14 230, and senior
Abby Livingston (80-80-75-235; +19) placed 41
st-overall.
Utah Tech will wrap up the season at the 2023 Western Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championships, which will be held on April 23-25, at Semiahmoo Country Club in Blaine, Wash.
