The Trailblazers track and field team posted several impressive performances competing in the Vince O'Boyle Classic at UC Irvine. The team saw program records fall across various disciplines including the 100, 800, 1500, 4X400 relay and, an event win along with a record in the 400 hurdles.

Derrick Atkins said the team's performance shows the growth he's seen in the group: "We saw a lot of improvement collectively as a team. We're building and getting better each day. We saw five school records which shows the growth of our program. The ladies showed out, it went a lot better than our home meet where I think there were a lot of nerves opening the season. Overall, this week went well and we are excited to get back to competition next weekend at Utah."

IN COMPETITION: The sprints group was highlighted by the 100-meter performance of
Rashawnna Gibson who ran a team record time of 12.24 also good for an eigth place event finish.
Ashlynn Gilhula put up a 12.33 mark good for third in program history. The group of seven Blazers in the 200 was again led by Gibson who ran the third-best mark in team history at 25.51. She was followed by
Ashlyn Parish in 25.88 good for sixth-best all-time. The 400 had a pair of Trailblazers with the top finisher,
Alaynah Reed, crossing the line in 1:00.67.

In the distance events, the Blazers had two more records fall. In the 800
Addi Wyatt bested the teams' top mark at 2:13.29 with a podium finish of third in the event.
Sadie Edwards also cracked the top 10 performance list at number five in 2:20.26. In the 1500
Lexi Larsen eclipsed the school record putting up a time of 4:42.37 as the Trailblazers lone entry in the event. In the longest event of the day Utah Tech entered seven runners with
Shakayla Morgan running 18:16.76 for the Blazers fastest performance in a hot 5'000-meter run.

Megan Jenkins had one of the most impressive performances of the day, winning the 400-meter hurdles and lowering her own team record with a 1:02.75 mark. Amma Lloyd took sixth on the day running 1:07.31. In the high hurdles, it was
Ashlyn Parish who led the way taking sixth over 100 meters in 14.71, the fifth-best time in team history.
Emma Lloyd was close behind in 15.03 for sixth in program history and
Megan Jenkins ran the eighth-best mark at 15.14.

The final team record of the day came in the 4X400 meter relay with the team of
Sadie Edwards,
Addi Wyatt,
Kelly Denninghoff, and
Megan Jenkins running 3:54.16. The Blazers 4x100 team left the meet with the second-best time in team history at 47.83 taking fourth place in the meet.

And finally, in the Blazers lone field event, three women contested the high jump with the highest clearance coming from
Morgan Callens at 1.46m (4' 9.5") good for a seventh place finish. And
Lainee Leavitt was just behind with an eigth place finish at 1.41m (4' 7.5").
