Trailblazers Stopped by SFA on Saturday

Utah Tech Baseball dropped its third-straight and suffered its first WAC series loss of the season after a 17-9 home defeat at the hands of Stephen F. Austin on Saturday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.

As they did in the series opener on Friday night, the Trailblazers (7-17/2-3 WAC) found themselves in another early hole as SFA used an eight-run third inning to race out to a 9-1 advantage.

And also like Friday night, Utah Tech would chip away at the deficit, which started in the home third with a pair of runs coming on a Blake Borgogno one-out single to make it a 9-3 game.

The Blazers then struck for four more runs in the fourth on a bases loaded flyout from Tyson Fisher, followed by a two-run Hank Dodson single and a Borgogno groundout that cut the deficit to 9-7.

SFA (10-12/4-4 WAC) got two of those runs back in the sixth to stretch its lead to 11-7. Then after the two teams traded single runs over the two innings, the Lumberjacks would put the game, and the series win, on ice with a five-run ninth.

Utah Tech rapped out 10 hits on the afternoon, with Shane Taylor accounting for two hits, including a double andhis second home run of the season, to go with two walks and two runs scored out of the lead off spot. Zach Thomas also collected two hits as eight of the nine Trailblazers in the starting lineup had at least one hit.

Utah Tech will look to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon beginning at 12:05 p.m.
