(Provo, Utah – Dec. 9, 2023) - The Utah Tech indoor track and field team got the season underway this weekend at the BYU December Invitational hosted at the Smith Fieldhouse.
With BYU, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State, Westminster and an assortment of unattached athletes competing in the meet, the Trailblazers posted 26 personal bests in the meet.
Competing in seven different events on Saturday, the Blazers saw four student-athletes post top 10 finishes with junior Sadie Edwards placing eighth in the 800 meters clocking a time of 2:21.82.
In her first action as a Trailblazer, freshman Ryan Mendez blazed a time of 1:18.34 in the 500 meters.
In the sprints, sophomore Ashlyn Parish checked in 10th in the 60 meter hurdles breaking the nine-second mark at 8.99 and junior Rashawnna Gibson raced to a time of 7.77 in the 60 meter dash.
Fourteen different Trailblazers competed in the 300 meters highlighted by freshman Kaydance Sherwood with a noteworthy time of 41.63.
The Trailblazers return to the track for the BYU Indoor Invitational on Jan. 11-13 at the Smith Fieldhouse.
