Utah Tech fifth-year guard
Breaunna Gillen was named Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday for her efforts in the Trailblazers' two season-opening home victories last week.
Gillen averaged 22.5 pts on 62.5 percent shooting (16-of-28), along with 9.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.0 steals in her two starts.
The 2023-24 WAC preseason player of the year opened her final collegiate campaign by just missing her second career triple-double in a 116-59 rout of La Verne on Nov. 6. Gillen poured in a game-high 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting, and tallied 11 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals.
Gillen followed that up a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds in the Trailblazers' 73-58 triumph over Jacksonville State last Thursday night. She scored 12 of her 24 points in the second quarter as part of a 25-5 run that turned a 25-19 deficit into a 44-30 Utah Tech halftime lead. Gillen went 11-of-20 from the floor and collected four assists, one steal and one block.
Utah Tech (2-0/0-0 WAC) will open a five-game road swing on Tuesday night with a quick trip to Las Vegas to play at UNLV (2-0). Tip-off inside the Cox Pavilion is set for 6:30 p.m. (PST).
