Trailblazers set five program records at WAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

The Dixie State women's track and field team closed the 2022 season in record-breaking fashion this week at the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships held at the University of Washington's Husky Track in Seattle, Washington.

The Trailblazers competed in 13 total events at the three-day meet, and set five school records while posting nine other program top-10 marks.

Dixie State opened competition at the WAC Championships on Thursday and set the tone for the weekend with one program record and two additional school top-10 marks.

Madison Flippence ran to a time of 35:05.34 in the 10000m for the first record, more than 40 seconds faster than the previous mark. Kirstin Williams finished with a time of 37:50.69 in the same event for the No. 7 mark in the DSU record book. Grace McLaughlin posted a mark of 4:55.53 in the 1500m to land at No. 3 in the Blazer top-10.

The Trailblazers tallied their next program-best mark on Friday in the 800m when Addi Wyatt ran to a time of 2:19.61. That mark didn't last long, as McLaughlin posted a time of 2:18.54 in the final heat to claim DSU's top spot in the event.

Four other Dixie State runners claimed spots in the Trailblazer record book on Friday, led by Amy White in the 3000m Steeplechase. White posted a time of 11:59.79 for the No. 2 mark in program history. Ashlynn Gilhula finished with a time of 12.49 in the 100m for the No. 6 school mark, while Rashawnna Gibson crossed the line with a time of 12.61 for No. 10 all-time. Sadie Edwards claimed the No. 8 DSU mark in the 400m with a time of 1:00.35.

The Trailblazers closed the meet with three program records on Saturday to go with two additional top-10 marks.

Flippence recorded her second DSU record of the weekend with a time of 16:58.30 in the 5000m, while Williams crossed the line with a mark of 18:25.30 for No. 10 all-time in the DSU record book.

DSU's lone relay team in the 4x100 ran to a record time of 47.73 as Emma Terry, Erica Holt, Gilhula, and Gibson eclipsed the mark they set earlier in the season at the Weber State Spring Classic. Holt and Terry also joined Edwards and Wyatt in the 4x400 and ran to a time of 4:06.48 for the second-fastest DSU time in the event.

Paige Davis recorded the lone program record in the field events, tallying a jump of 11.32m (37-1.75) in the triple jump.

With the conclusion of the WAC Championships, the Trailblazers have completed their second season of NCAA Division I competition and will look forward to spring 2023 to continue its success.
