Trailblazers battle wind and rain at BYU Robison Invitational

The Dixie State women's track and field team battled through a lengthy rain delay and windy conditions on Friday and Saturday at the BYU Robison Invitational at the Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex in Provo, Utah.

The Trailblazers were set to open competition on Friday, but rainy conditions forced the postponement of nearly every event to Saturday. The meet resumed Saturday morning, but not without more adverse weather as high winds moved through the area.

Despite the stormy conditions, Dixie State still managed to post solid marks at the meet with one school record, one event win, and nine other DSU top-10 marks.

Sophia Imola set the lone program record of the weekend, breaking her own previous mark with a toss of 42.68m (140-00.25) in the hammer throw. Emilee Nelson posted DSU's second top-10 mark in the field events, claiming the No. 2 spot in the javelin with a mark of 38.94m (127-09).

Madison Flippence ran to a first-place finish in the 10,000m with a time of 37:36.08 to land at No. 5 in the DSU record book. Kirstin Williams also landed in the DSU top-10 at No. 7 with a time of 38:43.16.

Three Trailblazers posted top-10 times in the 800m, including Addi Wyatt at No. 5 with a time of 2:23.66, Grace McLaughlin at No. 6 with a time of 2:25.03, and Sadie Edwards at No. 9 with a time of 2:28.06. Edwards also ran to No. 6 in the 400m with a mark of 59.48.

Amy White ran to a time of 12:23.20 in the 3000m Steeplechase to claim the No. 7 spot on the DSU top-10 list. DSU's lone relay team of Rashawnna Gibson, Ashlynn Gilhula, Erica Holt, and Emma Terry posted the third-best time in program history in the 4x100, finishing with a time of 48.43.

Dixie State will close its 2022 Track and Field season at the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Seattle, Washington, on May 12-14.
