Trailblazers claim first event win, break three program records at Weber State Indoor Invite

Dixie State women's track and field returned to competition this weekend, posting solid marks at the Weber State Indoor Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Marquardt Fieldhouse and Stromberg Arena in Ogden, Utah.

The Trailblazers claimed their first indoor event win in program history and broke three school records in the team's final meet before the 2022 Western Athletic Conference Championships.

DAY ONE

Dixie State opened the meet with its three field events on Friday, highlighted by Morgan Callens breaking the program record in the high jump with a mark of 1.49m.

Rashawnna Gibson posted a top-4 finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.93m, while Sophia Imola recorded a toss of 12.49m in the weight throw.

DAY TWO

The Trailblazers wrapped up competition with eight running events on Saturday and kicked off the day in winning fashion. Ashlynn Gilhula and Gibson crossed the finish line simultaneously in first place in the 55m with a time of 7.26 to share the first indoor event win in program history in what also marked the first time a DSU runner had competed in the 55m.

Grace McLaughlin kept things rolling in the next event, shattering the program record in the Mile run. McLaughlin finished in sixth place with a time of 5:12.64, more than 23 seconds faster than the previous mark.

Addi Wyatt tallied the final program record of the weekend, crossing the line in ninth place with a time of 2:28.11 in the 800m, a mark of more than 11 seconds better than the previous record.

The Trailblazers posted three additional top-8 finishes, as Erica Holt notched a second-place finish with a time of 26.62 in the 200m, while Kirstin Williams (11:00.90), crossed the line in fifth place and Brooklyn Smith (11:44.25), followed in seventh place in the 3000m.

Dixie State competed in two other events for the first time, as Emma Lloyd posted a time of 8.76 in the 55m hurdles to qualify for the finals, and later joined Wyatt, Sadie Edwards, and Camilla Hamilton to tally a time of 4:15.59 in the 4x400 relay.

DSU will wrap up its indoor season with the 2022 WAC Indoor Championships on February 18-19 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
