Dixie State broke two more school records and just missed out on two medals on an exciting day three at the 2022 Western Athletic Conference Women's Swimming Championships on Friday night at the CRWC Natatorium in Houston, Texas.

After three days of competition, DSU stands in seventh place with 152 points, 37 points clear of eighth place Seattle U (115 pts). Northern Arizona remains in the lead with 514 points, followed by Grand Canyon (481 pts) in second and Northern Colorado (335 pts) in third.

DSU opened the finals portion of the day with sophomore Akalia Bostock racing in DSU's first championship heat of the meet, which came in the 400-yard IM. Bostock placed eighth overall in a time of 4:25.45, which was the second-fastest time in that event in program history.

The Trailblazers broke their first record of the day in the 100 butterfly when junior Kyrie Nicolds won her bonus final heat with a 56.40. Junior Chloe Partsch followed that with a 57.06 mark in the consolation final, which was the ninth-fastest time in DSU history and shaved over four seconds off of her career best time. In addition, senior Alaina Otterstrom bettered her previous career-best time by over five seconds with a 58.20 in the bonus final in her last time swimming in that event.

In the 100 breast, sophomore Skyler Lyon just missed claiming a bronze medal by just 0.12 seconds as she posted DSU's best individual finish to this point of the WAC championship meet with a fourth-place 1:02.11 (#4 all-time at DSU).

Meanwhile, freshman Ally Boynton clocked three of the DSU's top-five fastest marks all-time in the 100 back on Friday, which included a consolation final victory (ninth-place overall) in a time of 55.98 (#2 all-time at DSU). Boynton also swam a 57.14 (#5 all-time at DSU) in her preliminary heat.

Then in the final event of the night, the 400 medley relay, the Trailblazers came close to another medal, but had to settle for a school-record time of 3:45.71, which was good for fourth place. Boynton opened the race with a 56.64 100 back time (#4 all-time at DSU), while Lyon, Partsch and Bostock closed out the record-breaking effort.

The final day of competition at the WAC Championships will begin on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. (CT), with the preliminary heats in the 200 backstroke. The final races will follow on Saturday afternoon at 3:20 p.m. (CT), with the championship heats in the 1,650 free.
