Trailblazers break six school records at WAC Indoor Championships

Dixie State women's track and field closed its 2022 indoor season in record-breaking fashion on Friday and Saturday at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Trailblazers competed in 13 events at the two-day meet, including 10 running events and three events, and set six program records in the indoor-season finale. DSU also fielded competitors in two distance events for the first time in its indoor history, including the 5000m and the distance medley.

Ashlynn Gilhula tallied two separate program records, sprinting to a 7.82 mark in the 60m and a time of 25.92 in the 200m.

Addi Wyatt posted a program-best time in the 400m, crossing the line with a time of 1:01.36.

Grace McLaughlin shattered the DSU indoor record in the 3000m with a 10th-place finish and time of 10:20.60, a mark of more than 23 seconds faster than the previous record. McLaughlin also posted an 11th-place finish and a time of 5:13.45, just one second behind her current DSU record time, in the Mile run.

The Trailblazers' team of Wyatt, Sadie Edwards, Camilla Hamilton, and Emma Lloyd, posted a program-record time of 4:08.79 in the 4x400 relay, while Sophia Imola bested her own previous mark in the shot put, tossing a new record mark of 8.74m.

Dixie State will return to action on March 11, when the Trailblazers open their outdoor track and field season at the CSU Fullerton-hosted Ben Brown Invitational in Fullerton, California.
