Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Unbeaten streak ends with 1-0 loss to GCU

Utah Tech's unbeaten streak comes to an end thanks to a 1-0 loss to Grand Canyon.

What Head Coach Molly Rouse said: "Tonight was a solid team performance. We knew heading into these final WAC matches, that we would get tested on both sides of the ball, by very good teams. It was encouraging to see us hold off a tough attacking GCU side for almost 80 minutes. Additionally, we created quality chances that could have given us the lead or evened the game late. By far, the most encouraging part of tonight's performance was seeing the Trailblazers battle every single minute of the match. At no point did we let up in our effort or belief in each other, which sets us up well for a competitive game Sunday against CBU."

HOW IT HAPPENED: Grand Canyon was the first to get a shot on goal in the seventh minute but Kayla Thompson came away with the stop. GCU recorded another shot on goal in the 17th minute and Thompson notched another save. It wasn't until the 24th minute that the Trailblazers recorded a shot on goal.

Nyland fired one off in the bottom left but the Lopes came away with a stop. The Trailblazers put three more shots on frame throughout the first half and GCU put up one but neither team were able to get any goals and the score was 0-0 at the half.

Utah Tech was first to get a shot on frame in the second half. McKinley Barney placed one on frame but GCU saved it.  In the 74th minute, GCU was able to sneak a goal past Thompson to take a 1-0 lead.

Utah Tech fired up in the remainder of the half to try and notch and equalizer. Gracie Knutzen and Nyland recorded back-to-back shots on frame but nothing sunk. The clock finished it's count and the Lopes took down the Trailblazers 1-0.

STAT BREAKDOWN:  In total Utah Tech had 12 shots with eight shots on frame. While Grand Canyon had 17 total shots with seven on frame. Nyland led with two shots and both on frame.

Thompson started in goal and played the full 90 for UT and ended the game with six saves and allowed one goal.

NOTES TO KNOW: Utah Tech now has a 10-3-1 record overall on the season and are now 6-1-1 in WAC action.

UP NEXT: Utah Tech will finish off the home season by hosting California Baptist before hitting the road for the final matches of the regular season at Seattle U and Utah Valley.
