Trailblazers battle in 1-0 loss to Lancers

Utah Tech battled in a 1-0 loss to California Baptist Sunday afternoon in the last home game of the season.

What Head Coach Molly Rouse Said: Today was another great example of how competitive our conference is. Facing off against a strong CBU side, who had critical points on the line, painted an important picture of how imperative it is to put together a 90 minute performance. It is a hard lesson learned, that starting flat against solid opponents at this point in the season will not be enough to secure a result. We are proud of our second half response, as we created enough chances to tie the match but unfortunately, we fell short in execution. Luckily, we are confident our team will respond positively moving forward. All along, our goal for the season has been to be competitive in every game and we have the challenge of facing both top teams in the WAC when it matters most. We look forward to getting tested on the road and growing in our consistency during the hardest stretch of season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: California Baptist pressured the Trailblazers early with a shot on frame in the fifth minute but Kayla Thompson notched the save. It wasn't until the 16th minute that Utah Tech got a shot off and it wasn't until the 35th minute that theTrailblazers got a shot on frame. Hallystyn Kap was able to get a head off a corner but the Lancers came away with the save.

In the 41st minute, California Baptist was able to get a strong attack in the box and executed a goal to take a 1-0 lead.

Utah Tech was able to get a shot on goal in the 43rd minute but couldn't execute and the first half ended with UT trailing 1-0.

In the 49th minute, UT drew a corner kick and was able to get a foot on it in the box for a shot on goal but couldn't finish.

In the 55th minute the Trailblazers found a break where Karli Nyland sent a power shot in towards the goal and it knocked off the woodwork where Jaci Dandos-Cook was there to place a shot on frame but the Lancers keeper batted it out where Emily Garbett sat for the rebound and fired off a shot that went high right.

Utah Tech was able to get two more shots on goal in the second half and had far more opportunities in the second half than California Baptist but the Trailblazers never found the back of the net and took a 1-0 loss.

STAT BREAKDOWN:  In total Utah Tech had 11 shots with six shots on frame. While CBU had 13 total shots with seven on frame.

Thompson started in goal and played the full 90 for UT and ended the game with six saves and allowed one goal.
