Dixie State used a pair of late inning rallies to sweep a Saturday twin bill from Seattle U on Saturday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field. The Trailblazers erased a three-run deficit in their final at bat to post a 9-7 come-from-behind win in seven innings in game one, then scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk off with a 14-13 triumph in the nightcap.
Freshman infielder
Shane Taylor homered twice in game one, the first coming with two outs in the home second to give the Blazers an early 2-0 lead.
Seattle U (13-29/7-20 WAC) answered with three runs an inning later, but DSU countered with two more runs in its half the frame to take the lead back at 4-3.
Kaden Hollow led off the inning with his team-leading ninth homer of the year, and second of the series, while
Chase Rodriguez scored the go-ahead run on the back end of a failed double steal attempt with two outs.
The Redhawks reclaimed the lead in the fourth, striking for four runs thanks in part to a Kyle Sherick grand slam that gave his side a 7-4 advantage after SU loaded the bases with one out.
Trailing by that same score in the bottom of the sixth, Dixie State rallied for five runs to wrestle the lead back. Taylor led of the stanza with an opposite field blast to left center, then with runners on second and third with one out,
Jake Engel blooped a pinch hit single to center field to plate both base runners and tie the game.
DSU loaded the bases two batters later thanks to a walk and hit batter to bring up
Jagun Leavitt, who chased Engel home carrying the eventual game-winning run with a sacrifice fly out.
Tanner Argyle followed with a clutch RBI-single to plate an insurance run and give the Blazers their two-run cushion.

Senior closer
Brayden Bonner (S, 6) then came on and retired the Redhawks in order in the seventh to cinch the victory.
Dixie State pounded out 14 hits in game one, highlighted by a 4-for-4 effort from
Cade Spurlin, while Taylor finished with three hits. Freshman lefthander
Ben Hart (W, 2-5) fired 2.2 innings of one-hit shutout baseball with two strikeouts to earn his second win of the year out of the Blazer bullpen.
The Trailblazers used some more of their sixth-inning magic in the nightcap as they tallied four runs to turn an 8-4 deficit into a tie ballgame at 8-8 after six complete. Hollow drove in two of the four runs in the rally, while DSU was gifted two other runs on a wild pitch and a two-out Redhawk error.
The game see-sawed from there as the lead changed hands five times over the next three innings. Seattle U took the lead back with two unearned runs after a two-out DSU error in the seventh, only the see the Trailblazers grab it right back with three runs of their own after the stretch.
Seattle U countered with more two runs in the eighth to jump back on top at 12-11, then after Dixie State pulled even in the home eighth, Sherick hit his second homer of the day to lead off the ninth to put the Redhawks back on top at 13-12.
In the DSU ninth, Taylor reached on a lead-off single and would come all the way around to score the tying run two batters later on a Spurlin two-out, pinch-hit double. Rodriguez then came off the bench and delivered the walk-off hit that plated pinch runner
Drake Benner from second base with the game-winning run.
Engel and
Ben Petty-Hull had three hits apiece as Dixie State pounded out 16 safeties in the game. Meanwhile Bonner (W, 3-2) collected the second win for the DSU pen on the day.
Dixie State will play for a series sweep as the two teams meet in Sunday's finale beginning at 12:05 p.m.
