Dixie State saw its modest three-game win streak come to halt after dropping a 16-3 home decision to in-state foe Utah on Tuesday afternoon at Bruce Hurst Field.
After a scoreless first inning, the Utes (7-15) struck for four runs in second, which started with a Christopher Rowan Jr. lined shot over the left field wall to lead off the frame. Utah would tack on three more runs on a pair two-out RBI hits and a balk to race out to the early advantage.
Trailing 6-0 in home third, Dixie State (9-17) got two of those runs back thanks to
Kaden Hollow's team-leading seventh home run of the season, a two-run blast over the right field wall that cut the Blazer deficit to 6-2.
However from it was all Utah as the Utes put up crooked numbers in four of their next six offensive frames and cruised on from there to claim the victory.
Hollow doubled later in the game and finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk, while
Chase Rodriguez collected two hits as DSU tallied nine safeties on the day.
Dixie State heads back out on the road for a three-game non-conference series at PAC-12 member USC this Friday-through-Sunday in Los Angeles.
