Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Trailblazers Breeze Past Regis Friday, 2-1

Dixie State picked up its second-straight RMAC victory with a 2-1 result at Regis on a blustery Friday afternoon at the Regis Soccer Pitch.

The two sides wasted little time getting going on offense as the Rangers quickly took a 1-0 lead on a Parker Klein goal just 1:56 into the match. Dixie State (3-3-1/2-1-0 RMAC) answered with the equalizer nearly 13 minutes later when Matt Lockwood played a ball to Logan Beus, who tucked in his first collegiate goal to tie the match at 1-1.

Regis (3-3-1/2-1-0) continued to force the issue in the period, outshooting the Trailblazers 11-3 in the opening 45 and attempted six corner kicks. However the DSU defense rose to the challenge, while netminder Zach Nielson made five saves, in limiting the Rangers to just the one first half goal as the two teams went into the halftime break tied.

The match remained deadlocked until the 52' when John Joseph (2) finished a Raul Ruiz feed inside the Ranger box to give Dixie State its first lead of the day at 2-1. Meanwhile, the DSU defense, with a big assist from a steady wind at its back, held Regis to just six shot attempts in the second stanza.

Dixie State won despite being outshot 17-10 in the match (8-6 on goal), though the Blazers did manage seven second-half attempts with the helping wind. Nielson finished with seven saves, including a big stop on an Anthony Priest shot with five minutes remaining in regulation time.

Dixie State continues its Colorado road swing with a Sunday date at UCCS in Colorado Springs beginning at 1 p.m.
