(2019 RMAC MEN'S SOCCER TOURNAMENT INFORMATION)
Dixie State struck for two goals in the final two minutes of regulation time to claim a 3-1 result over Colorado Christian on Senior Day Sunday at Trailblazer Stadium.
The victory, DSU's fourth-straight to close the regular season, also clinched the No. 4 overall seed in the upcoming RMAC postseason tournament for the Trailblazers as they closed the regular season at 10-7-1 overall, 9-5-0 (27 pts) in conference play.
The win streak look to be in jeopardy in the opening moments as the Cougars (1-15-0/1-12-0 RMAC) drew a quick foul in the DSU penalty area just 1:10 into the match. CCU midfielder Dmitri Fabro stepped up and buried the penalty kick chance to give his side an early 1-0 lead.
The Blazers would net the equalizer 14 minutes later when freshman
John Joseph dribbled in from the left wing and found sophomore
Daniel Brubaker, who blasted home his first goal of the year from 15-yards outs to square the match at 1-1.
DSU thought it had the go-ahead goal with under two minutes to play in the half when sophomore
Matt Lockwood played a ball inside the 6-yard box to fellow sophomore
Dresdan Quackenbush, who put a thunderous boot on the ball for an apparent goal. However the assistant referee ruled that the ball had touched the end line before the Lockwood pass, which negated the goal.
The score remained deadlocked for the majority of the second half, despite 14 Trailblazer shot attempts and eight corner kick chances in the period. Senior
Moises Medina had several near misses in the frame as he had shots carom off both the near post and cross bar, and had two other chances stopped by CCU keeper Max Collingwood.
In all, Collingwood made six of his eight saves overall in a 43-minute span of the second half before Dixie State finally solved the freshman. With 1:49 to play in regulation, freshman
Logan Beus played a corner kick to far to post fellow freshman
Julian Herrera, who headed home his first collegiate goal past Collingwood to give his side a 2-1 lead.
DSU would tack on an insurance goal 37 seconds later when sophomore
Idris Alabi sent a long clearing pass to Joseph, who broke away from the Cougar defense and finished top shelf just inside the far post to cement the Blazer victory.
Dixie State outshot CCU 18-6 in the match, including an 11-2 count on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Zach Nielson made one save, which came while the match was still tied with 4:32 remaining, to earn his DSU single-season record tying 10th win of the season and the 31st-career win in goal overall.
