Trailblazers Stopped by CMU Sunday, 1-0

Dixie State dropped the final game of its four-match homestand to Colorado Mesa, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Trailblazer Stadium.

The two teams battled back and forth in a scoreless stalemate for the first 65-plus minutes of play, with both sides combining for four total shot attempts. DSU (6-7-1/5-5-0 RMAC) had arguably the first good look for either side in the match midway through the 68th-minute when Dresdan Quackenbush rocketed a shot that caromed off the far post to Logan Bues, but his rebound attempt sailed wide.

On CMU's (8-3-2/6-2-2 RMAC) ensuing possession, the Mavericks drew a foul just outside the Blazer 18, which set up an Ethan Anderson chance that also found the post and bounded away. However Colorado Mesa would net the lone goal of the day at the 71:08 mark when Lawan Abray headed in an Anderson corner kick played into the DSU 6-yard box.

DSU was held without a shot attempt the rest of the way, including an Idris Alabi chance with under nine minutes to play in regulation, but his attempt was negated by a DSU foul.

Dixie State wound up with five shot attempts, one on frame, while CMU was credited with four total shots (2 SOG).

Dixie State begins its final road swing of the 2019 season next weekend with matches at Adams State on Friday, Oct. 25, and at CSU-Pueblo on Sunday, Oct. 27.
