Late Rally Dooms Trailblazers in 2OT Friday Night, 4-3

Dixie State conceded three unanswered Fort Lewis goals in the second half and overtime as the Trailblazers dropped a 4-3 decision to the Skyhawks Friday night at Trailblazer Stadium.

DSU took the first of a pair of two-goal leads in the opening 17 minutes of the match, with the first goal coming at the 11:17 mark off the boot of Guglielmo Bianchi. The freshman settled a redirected ball played in by Moises Medina and finished inside the FLC 6-yard box for his team-leading sixth goal of the year.

Logan Beus and Medina set up the Blazers' second goal just over five minutes later on a ball sent ahead to John Joseph, who outran the Skyhawk defense and beat the FLC keeper 1-v-1 for his fifth goal of the season to stake his side to a 2-0 advantage.

FLC (7-3-3/5-3-1 RMAC) got one of those goals back with seven-plus minutes to play in the frame when Hakeem Rabiu tucked in a defensive carom to cut the DSU lead in half at 2-1. The Trailblazers nursed the one-goal lead until the 68:00 mark when Dixie State (6-6-1/5-4-0 RMAC) drew a foul inside the Skyhawk 18. Medina (5) would step up and fire home the penalty kick chance to extend the Blazer lead to 3-1. Medina's goal, the 28th of his career, also moved him into a tie for first place atop DSU's career goals list (28 - Jordan Roylance, 2009-12).

The Skyhawks quickly countered with two goals in a span of 4:46 to square the match at 3-3. AJ Haskell headed in FLC's second goal just over one minute after the Medina PK, then Loic Jean-Baptiste chipped in the equalizer off a Ryan Lee shot that bounced off the near post.

The two sides battled to a stalemate through the remainder of regulation and the first overtime period before FLC's Brantley Bice rocketed a 20-yard shot from the left wing that bounded just inside the far post to end the match.

Dixie State lost despite outshooting FLC 21-15, including a 12-10 edge in shots on goal.

The Trailblazers wrap up their four-match RMAC homestand this Sunday afternoon vs. Colorado Mesa at 1:30 p.m.
