Dixie State saw its brief two-match winning streak come to a halt Sunday afternoon as the Trailblazers dropped a 2-1 decision to Colorado School of Mines at Trailblazer Stadium.
After three near misses in the first six-plus minutes of the match, Dixie State (6-5-1/5-3-0 RMAC) punched home the first goal of the day early in the 21
st-minute off the boot of
Guglielmo Bianchi.
Moises Medina played a cross from the left wing, which deflected off an Oredigger defender to Bianchi, who rocketed a shot into the upper left side of the frame for his team-leading fifth goal of the year and the fourth goal in his last seven matches overall.
However the DSU lead was short-lived as Mines (8-2-2/6-0-2 RMAC) scored on its ensuing possession as Ford Edwards finished a deflected touch from Lucas King just 15 seconds later to square the match at 1-1.
The score remained tied until the 66:51 mark of the match when Mines defender Jason Zobott headed in a Tristan Semelsberger feed from the center of the Blazer 6-yard box to stake the Orediggers to a one goal advantage. Dixie State was held to just three shot attempts over the final 23 minutes, including a Dresdan Quackenbush chance that was turned away by CSM keeper Drew Johnson with 3:30 remaining in regulation time.
Dixie State finished with 13 shot attempts, six on goal, with freshman
John Joseph accounting for five of those shots (3 SOG). Senior netminder
Zach Nielson collected eight saves, including his 200
th-career save recorded in the second half.
Dixie State continues its RMAC homestand next weekend with matches against Fort Lewis on Friday, Oct. 18, and Colorado Mesa on Sunday, Oct. 20.
