Matt Conway scored 15 of his game-high 24 points after halftime as Dixie State rallied from a double-digit second half deficit to escape with a hard-fought 77-74 victory at Regis Saturday night inside the Regis Fieldhouse. DSU has now won three of its last four games overall to improve to 7-8 overall, 5-6 in RMAC play.

Dixie State got off to another quick start as the frontcourt tandem of Matt Conway (7 pts) and Julien Ducree (5 pts) combined to score the Trailblazers' first 12 points as DSU raced out to a 12-4 lead.

Regis slowly chipped away at the Blazer advantage before the Rangers (11-6/8-3 RMAC) erupted for a 23-6 run that turned a 20-17 DSU cushion to a 40-26 lead with 3:06 to go until the halftime break. The Regis trio of Brian Dawson, Jarrett Broadbank and Ryan Beisty all hit consecutive 3-pointers to kick start the run as the Rangers hit 12 of their first 18 shots overall with five total treys to open up a double-digit lead.

However the Trailblazers managed to stay within striking distance, outscoring Regis 11-4 to close the stanza to  head to locker room down just 42-36 after a Quincy Mathews lay-in right before the halftime buzzer.

Regis scored the first four points of the second half to again extend to a double-digit lead, but Dixie State continued to hang around, eventually pulling to within 54-53 on a Conway basket with exactly 11 minutes to play. The Rangers came back with four-straight points to make a two-possession game, but again the Blazers answered with an 8-2 spurt to regain the lead at 61-60 on an Andre Wilson lay-up and free throw with 7:48 to go.

Leading 72-71 with under two minutes to play, the Trailblazers took advantage of Regis having three post players foul out as Zach Frampton got the ball down low to Price, who laid in his fourth bucket of the game to give DSU a 74-71 lead.

Dawson scored on the Rangers' next possession make a one-point game again, then after a couple empty possessions, Conway put DSU back up three at 76-73 with a lay-in with 43 seconds left.

Christian Little would split a pair of free throws to pull the Rangers to within 76-74 with 31 seconds to go, while Price also went 1-of-2 at the line on DSU ensuing possession with 10 ticks on the clock to again make a three-point game. Dixie State then elected not to foul in the waning seconds before Dawson launched a 24-footer that sailed right of the rim at the final horn and the Trailblazers celebrated a crucial two-game conference road sweep.

Conway's 24 points were one off of his DSU career high as he hit on 7-of-10 from the floor to with a team-high eight rebounds. Wilson added 13 points, including 9-of-11 at the foul line, while Price and Jack Pagenkopf finished in 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Dixie State went 22-of-51 (.431) from the floor, which included a 3-of-11 clip (.273) from beyond the arc, and attempted a season-high 40 free throws with 30 conversions (.750). In fact, both teams combined to shoot 78 free throws as 59 total fouls were called on the night. DSU also outrebounded Regis 38-32, including a 10-7 edge on the offensive glass, and finished with 15 turnovers, though only two of those miscues came after halftime.

DSU limited Regis to 42.0 percent shooting (21-of-50) on the night, 8-of-25 (.320) from the perimeter, though the Rangers were done in at the line as they hit on just 24-of-38 (.632) at the stripe, with 11 of those missing coming in the second half. Little led four Rangers in double figures with 19 points.

Dixie State heads back to Colorado to close out its four-game RMAC road swing, beginning with a trip to Grand Junction to play at Colorado Mesa on Friday, Jan. 25, at 7:30 p.m. DSU will then wrap up the trip in Gunnison against Western Colorado on Saturday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m.
