ALL-TIME VS. COLORADO MESA: Friday's game marks the eight meeting between Dixie State and Colorado Mesa. Four of the previous seven matchups (twice in 2006, 2008, twice in 2010, 2013, 2015) have been played at the CMU Thanksgiving Tournament in Grand Junction, Colorado, with the Mavericks winning three of the four games. DSU holds a 4-3 series lead vs. the Mavericks, including a 3-0 mark in St. George.
ALL-TIME VS. SIMON FRASER: Saturday's game marks the second meeting between Dixie State and Simon Fraser. SFU claimed a 74-52 victory in the inaugural matchup at the DSU Tipoff Classic on Nov. 7, 2012, in St. George.
KNOW YOUR FOE: Colorado Mesa finished the 2015-16 season with a 17-10 overall record and a 14-8 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Mavericks return the 2015-16 RMAC Preseason Player of the Year in guard Erin Reichle, who missed last season due to injury. Reichle averaged 17.4 points per game during the 2014-15 season. CMU used the same starting lineup in all 27 games last year and bring back two of those starters in All-RMAC selections Bryanna Adams and Sydney Small.
Simon Fraser finished the 2015-16 campaign with a 16-11 overall record and a 13-7 record in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. The Clan were picked second in the 2016-17 GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll and had three players (Meg Wilson, Ellen Kett, Elisa Homer) selected to the All-GNAC Preseason team. SFU opened the 2016-17 campaign last week at the CCA Division II Tipoff Classic in Anaheim, California, falling to California Baptist and earning wins over Augustana and Colorado Mines. Through three games, Wilson leads the Clan scoring attack with 20.3 points per game, while Rachel Fradgley(11.3 ppg) and Tia Tsang (10.3 ppg) also average double-digit scoring.
"Both of these teams are really good," head coach JD Gustin said. "We're excited about the challenge. We're going to try to keep it simple. We expect to compete no matter who we play. We're going to try to get better each day."
