Women's Golf Closes Fall Slate at Sonoma State Invite

Dixie State's women's golf team will close the fall portion of its 2015-16 schedule this Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19-20, as the Storm travels to the Sonoma State Fall Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 5,982-yard Foxtail Golf Club in Rohnert Park, Calif.

The five-player Storm lineup will include senior Shelby Madden (Iroquois Falls, Ontario Canada/Iroquois HS), sophomore Cobair Collinsworth (Sandy, Utah/Brighton HS), senior Maddy Fedoruk (Riverside, Calif./Poly HS), senior Hannah Folks (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS) and sophomore Sarah Folks (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS).

HEAD COACH RACHEL HARMON: Rachel Harmon (Brigham Young, 2007) is in her fourth season as Dixie State's head women's golf coach. Harmon, who has served as coach since the program's inception in 2012-13, led the Red Storm to a runner-up finish Pacific West Conference championship last season. In 2014, she was named PacWest co-Coach of the Year as the team placed fifth at the conference tournament, and in the program's first year of competition she led the Storm to a third-place league finish. Harmon was an accomplished college golfer in her own right at BYU, where she was a three-time All-American who broke several school records. She then joined the LPGA Tour in 2007 and recorded a pair of top-20 finishes. Harmon also had a stellar amateur career that saw her win two Utah State Amateur titles and qualify for the Women's United States Amateur. She also was a medalist in the first stage of U.S. Open qualifying.

LAST TIME OUT: Dixie State posted a 10th-place overall finish at the Second-Annual Dixie State University Fall Invitational, which was held Oct. 5-6, at Sand Hollow Golf Course in nearby Hurricane, Utah. The Storm shaved two strokes off their opening round score and wrapped up the day with a team score of 318 (+30), but DSU could not gain on the field and finished with a two-day team total of 638 (320-318 +62). Fellow PacWest member Point Loma (302-307 +33), which led by one shot heading into the final round, took home the team title by 10 strokes over second-place Sonoma State (306-313 +45).

Madden fired the low round of the final day for Dixie State with a 1-over 73 to finish in a six-way tied for ninth at +8 152, while Collinsworth came in solo 15th-place with a two total of 153 (77-76 +9). Fedoruk wound up tied for 38th at +17 161 (78-83), followed by sophomore Justine Connell (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego HS) in t-62nd (86-86 +28) and junior Kellie Bussie in t-67th (87-92 +35). Sarah Folks (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS) was the top individual player in the field as she carded a 7-over 79 to finish tied for 33rd overall at +16 160. In all, three DSU golfers played as individuals as Hannah Folks (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS) came in t-38th (79-82 +17) and freshman Mei Brennan (Layton, Utah/Northridge HS) finished t-53rd (82-84 +22).

STORM AT A GLANCE: After three fall events, Collinsworth leads the team with a 75.67 scoring average through six rounds, including a team low-round of -2 70 in her first round of the year at Western New Mexico. Madden is second on the team at 77.17 (six rounds), which includes an even par round of 72 at WNMU (second round) and 1-over 73 at the DSU Invite, followed by Fedoruk at 79.25 (four rounds), Sarah Folks (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS) at 80.00 (two rounds), Hannah Folks (St. George, Utah/Desert Hills HS) at 80.83 (six rounds), Brennan at 82.25 (four rounds), sophomore Justine Connell (Draper, Utah/Juan Diego HS) at 83.25 (four rounds), freshman Keilee Bessho (Flintridge, Calif./La Canada HS) at 83.50 (four rounds), and junior Kellie Busse (Las Vegas, Nev./Northwest Tech Academy) at 89.50 (two rounds).

HEAD COACH RACHEL HARMON ON THIS WEEK'S TOURNEY: "I'm taking an experienced group of players and I am excited to see them perform. We played this event in the spring, and I was fortunate to take Haley [Dunn] to this course for the [2015 NCAA West] regionals, so I have a lot of course knowledge to help the ladies this week."

NEXT UP FOR THE STORM: Dixie State will open its 2016 spring schedule at the Point Loma-hosted Super San Diego Women's Golf Championship February 8-9, at the Riverwalk Golf Course in San Diego, Calif.
