LAS VEGAS – The Dixie State women's basketball team played its last exhibition game before the regular season at UNLV and fell to the Rebels 100-67.
Chermayne Moore (Pinole, CA/Hercules) paced the Red Storm with 24 points. She made 9 of 18 shots from the field including 6 of 11 from downtown. Moore added five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) also dropped in 17 for Dixie State while
Leslie Tademy (Phoenix, AZ/South Mountain) dished out assists left and right to the tune of 10 dimes on the night to go along with four points.
Taylor Mann (Castle Dale, UT/Emery) added nine boards, four blocks and two points on the night.
"We had a great team effort tonight," head coach Jenny Thigpin said. "I am proud of the way we battled in the second half. I am very pleased with our team effort despite the challenges we've had. We came together and never once gave up. It's a great start to a promising season." DSU started out tough for UNLV and had an early lead in the first few minutes. A run midway through the first half put the Rebels off and running to a big lead.
Dixie State got a solid start with a long two from Moore to start the game. Moore had seven points early on to help the Red Storm lead it 12-9 with 14:31 to go in the first half.
Miller hit a deep three to give the Storm a 15-14 lead again.
Gabrielle Cabanero (Las Vegas, NV/Valley) banked in a triple to add to the lead 18-14.
UNLV started to get hot however, building up a 34-22 lead after a 12-0 run at the seven-minute mark.
The run kept going into the half, and Dixie State went into the locker room down 53-27. Moore led Dixie State with 10 points at the break.
After halftime, Dixie State did some positive things but the lead was too big to come back from. UNLV went on to win the exhibition game 100-67.
The Red Storm host Alaska Fairbanks on Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Burns Arena.
