Softball Run-Rules Simon Fraser in Desert Stinger Opener

LAS VEGAS -- Despite the tempature being below forty degrees at first pitch of tonight's Dixie State and Simon Fraser game in the Desert Stinger Tournament, the Red Storm bats pounded out 12 hits to defeat the Clan 13-4 in five innings at Majestic Park in Las Vegas.

The Red Storm jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Jaelle Judkins (Saint George, UT/Dixie High School) led the game by getting hit by a pitch. Siera Phillips (Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain High School) followed with an infield single and Judkins moved to third on a throwing error. Anna Cue (Murrieta Valley, CA/Murrieta Valley High School) gave DSC the 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly to left center field.

Similiar to her first performance on Wednesday, DSC starter Mattie Snow (Tooele, UT/Tooele High School) allowed three consecutive hits to Simon Fraser. The last was a three run home run to centerfield that put the Clan ahead 3-1.

The Red Storm would battle back in the top of the second, scoring five runs on three hits. After retiring the leadoff hitter, Courtney Hine (San Dimas, CA/San Dimas High School) singled to center field and reached second on a wild pitch. With two outs Rochelle Jenkins (Mira Loma, CA/Roosevelt High School) reached on an error to extend the DSC inning. Judkins reached by walking and Phillips followed with a single to right center field moving Judkins to third. Cue followed hitting the first pitch over the left center field fence for her third home run in as many games to give DSC a 6-3 lead.

The Clan added a run in the bottom of the second to cut into the DSC lead at 6-4.

DSC added two more runs in the third. Marla Reiter (Rolinda, CA/Central High School) had and RBI double and came around to score on a wild pitch to give DSC a 8-4 advantage.

In the 5th inning, Judkins reached on an infield single and stole second base. Phillips followed with an RBI double to center field. Cue picked up her fourth RBI of the game with and RBI single through the left side. The Red Storm scored their final run on an RBI ground out by Kristie Johnson (Temecula, CA/Chaparral High School).

For the third straight game the Red Storm have pounded out more than 10 hits in a game. Phillips led the team with three hits, Cue and Kylee Bufton (Spanish Fork, UT/Spanish Fork High School) each had two.

Snow allowed four runs on six hits whle striking out five Clan batters to improve to 2-0 on the season and help her team improve to 3-0 overall.

The loss drops the Simon Fraser to 0-2 and Trisha Bouchard had two hits for the Clan.

Dixie State continues play in the Desert Stinger Tournament with two games tomorrow. The first is scheduled to start at 12:30 pm MT against Sonoma State and the second game against No. 11 Cal State Dominguez Hills at 3 pm. MT.
