(San Diego, Calif. - April 6, 2026) - Despite falling behind early, the Trailblazers outlasted San Diego, 11-9 on Monday afternoon in a high-scoring contest at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex.
Utah Tech (14-24), who trailed 7-3 after the first two innings, used a six-run third inning to take back a two-run lead and added a pair of runs late to prevail for the victory.
Totaling 13 hits in the contest, the Trailblazers were led by
Abby Davidson going 3-for-3 off the bench scoring a team-leading three runs and drove in an RBI.
Freshman
Summer Sanderson belted her sixth home run of the season, added a single, drew a pair of walks and drove in three RBIs.
Three other Trailblazers tallied two hits apiece with
Baylee Howley and
Kennedy Embrey each registering a double.
In the circle,
Cemryn Pickett and
Riley Price threw the first 1.2 innings before giving way to
Delaney Wright for the final 5.1 innings. The freshman earned her third win of the season limiting San Diego (16-20) to three hits, two runs and struck out six.
How It Happened
The Trailblazers got the scoring started quickly with a two-run home run to center by Sanderson in the top of the first.
USD responded back with a five-run bottom of the frame and threatened for more, but Price was able to strand the bases loaded getting the final two Toreros to line out.
A sacrifice fly by
Kinley Pappas in the third cut USD's lead down to 5-3, but a pair of RBI singles by the Toreros pushed San Diego in front, 7-3 after two innings.
A six-run third inning pushed the Trailblazers back in the lead getting the scoring started with a two-run RBI double by down the right field line by Howley.
A sacrifice fly by
Naya Taylor and an RBI infield single by Davidson tied up the contest at seven and two more runs came around to give the Trailblazers a 9-7 lead.
The Toreros tied up the game at nine with a pair of runs in the fourth, but the Trailblazers responded right back with an RBI single by Pappas in the fifth and added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI infield single by Sanderson.
After a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh brought up the tying run for the Toreros, Wright got a lineout to second to clinch the victory.
