Trailblazers Drop Doubleheader at California Baptist on Friday Night

The Trailblazers and Lancers play the series finale on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

(Riverside, Calif. - April 3, 2026) - The Trailblazers dropped both ends of a doubleheader at California Baptist on Friday night at John C. Funk Stadium.

Utah Tech (13-23, 3-5 WAC) fell 8-0 in five innings in game one and 6-3 in game two to the WAC-leading California Baptist (30-12, 7-1 WAC) Lancers.

After being held to only three hits in game one, the Trailblazers doubled that total in the nightcap getting two hits apiece from Summer Sanderson and Baylee Howley.

Reigning WAC Player of the Week Kennedy Embrey tallied a double in the first game along with getting singles from Gabi Giroux and Lauren Jones.

In the pitching circle, Sauren Garton threw a complete game in the first game tossing 4.2 innings and struck out a pair.

The second contest saw another complete game for a Trailblazer hurler with Lexie Wilson throwing six innings striking out three.

How It Happened Game One
CBU struck first with a run in the bottom of the second belting a solo home run.

The Lancers tacked on four runs in the third, including a two-run home run, added two more runs in the fourth drawing a pair of bases-loaded walks and closed out the game in the fifth with a walk-off RBI double.

How It Happened Game Two
Wasting no time getting on the scoreboard in the nightcap, the Trailblazers scored three quick runs in the top of the first.

Leadoff doubles by Kinley Pappas and Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona led to the first run of the contest for Utah Tech and Sanderson followed drilling a two-run long ball to center field.

CBU answered back with a pair of solo home runs in the bottom of the frame and added a two-run RBI double in the third to take a 4-3 lead through three innings.

The Lancers added a sacrifice fly in the fourth and one final run in the fifth with a leadoff home run to push their lead to 6-3.

Picking up singles in the sixth and seventh, the Trailblazers were unable to generate any more runs to drop the nightcap.
