(Bakersfield, Calif. - April 7, 2026) - The Trailblazers swept CSU Bakersfield in a doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon defeating the Roadrunners, 9-3 in game one and 6-2 in game two at the Roadrunner Softball Complex.
Utah Tech (16-24) tallied 10 hits in game one and added eight base knocks in game two while matching the single-game program record with nine stolen bases in the contest.
The Trailblazers were led by a pair of two-hit games from senior
Sadie Phillips who stole a pair of bases in game one and added a single, double, stolen base and scored a run in game two.
Senior
Baylee Howley notched a pair of doubles, drove in a pair of RBIs, scored a run and drew a walk in the first game.
Fellow senior
Lakaiya-Braessia Kahahawai-Kekona scored a pair of runs & drilled a double in game one, added a pair of singles, swiped a pair of bases and drove in three RBIs in game two.
In the circle, senior
Sauren Garton tossed her fifth complete game of the season limiting CSU Bakersfield (8-30) to four hits, three runs, two earned and struck out a season-best seven in game one.
Sophomore
Lexie Wilson improved to 7-2 on the season earning the victory in game two with her fourth complete game limiting the Roadrunners to nine hits, two runs and struck out a pair.
How It Happened Game One
After three runs by the Roadrunners in the second inning, the Trailblazers ripped off nine unanswered runs over the third through sixth innings.
Utah Tech got the scoring started with one run in the third after
Maka Sonognini came home after a stolen base attempt by Pappas.
A four-run fourth inning got started with an RBI double by Howley scoring one followed by a two-run RBI single to center by
Drew McKown to take a 4-3 lead.
An RBI single by
Kamryn Caldwell drove home McKown to close out the scoring in the frame.
Howley tacked on a second RBI double in the contest in the fifth inning to push their lead to 6-3.
A three-run home run to right-center by Pappas in the sixth extended the Trailblazers' lead to 9-3 and Garton retired six of the final seven Roadrunners she faced to secure the win for UT.
How It Happened Game Two
The Trailblazers got the second game started with a run in the top of the first on an RBI groundout by Kahahawai-Kekona.
CSUB answered back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, but it was all Trailblazers from there tying up the score at two in the second with a sacrifice fly by
Lauren Jones.
The Trailblazers took the lead in the third on an RBI single to right field by Kahahawai-Kekona and extended their lead to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the fifth .
One final RBI single by Kahahawai-Kekona in the seventh made it 6-2 in favor of the Trailblazers as Wilson worked around a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh to lock up the doubleheader sweep.
