Storm face Holy Name on Saturday, ART U on Monday

BAY AREA TRIP, PART TWO:
This Saturday, the Dixie State men's soccer team begins a two-match trip to the San Francisco/Oakland area against a pair of Pacific West Conference opponents. The Red Storm face the Hawks of Holy Names on Oct. 12 (4:30 p.m. MT) and the Urban Knights of ART U on Oct. 14 (2 p.m. MT).

KEEP UP TO DATE:
The HNU match from Merritt College in Oakland will have no media/live stat coverage. Statistics and a full recap will be available late Saturday. Monday's match with ART U will have live stats at www.sidearmstats.com/academyart/msoc/xlive.htm.

RED STORM WATCH:
Dixie State just completed its longest homestand of the season, compiling a 2-2-1 mark against the four Pacific West from Hawaii and one non-conference foe from California.

The Storm opened the five-match string with its first win of the season, a 3-1 victory over Hope International. What followed was the team's most lopsided loss dropping a 5-1 decision to Hawaii Pacific. Just two days later, DSU dominated every facet of a 5-0 PacWest win over Chaminade. The final two matches of the homestand were physical tests – ending with a 2-1 loss to BYU-Hawaii and a momentum-building, comeback draw with Hilo, 3-3.

Erik Shallenberger (Las Vegas, NV/Arbor View) picked up nine points over four matches to take over the team lead with 11 points on the season. He had four goals and an assist before sitting out the Hilo match after accumulating his fifth yellow card. Nine other DSU players have scored at least one goal in 2013.

Despite the same amount of shot attempts through 10 matches, the Red Storm have four less goals than their opponents (21-17).

A LOOK AT THE HAWKS:
Holy Names is 2-6-1 on the season and 1-3 in the PacWest (12th place, 3 points). The Hawks broke through for their first conference win, 1-0 over Academy of Art, on Oct. 4. Most recently, HNU played a scoreless draw in out of conference action against UC Santa Cruz. Sophomore forward Jaime Phillips leads the Hawks with six goals while junior forward David Norton follows with five. Goalkeeper Phillip Poser has allowed 20 goals in nine matches, but also has a pair of shutouts.

A LOOK AT THE URBAN KNIGHTS:
Academy of Art is 6-4 on the season and 3-2 in the PacWest (T-6th place, 9 points). Their last two wins have both come against Bay Area rival Dominican, 3-1 and 1-0. Senior forward Jonmundur Gretarsson, from Iceland, in the only Urban Knight with double digit points (13 – 5 goals, 3 assists). ART U has used three goalkeepers on the year, but Luca Theis has been the most effective. In seven matches, he allows less than a goal a game (0.96 GAA) en route to a 5-2 goal record.

WHAT'S NEXT:
After the Bay Area trip, the Red Storm return home for two PacWest matches – Azusa Pacific (Oct. 19) and Point Loma (Oct. 26).
