GAME INFO: Dixie State welcomes the Burns Arena PacWest rival #19 ranked Grand Canyon University. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00 pm, with live audio coverage on Dixie State All Access (DixieAtheltics.com/showcase) and 91.3 FM KXDS. "Voice of the Red Storm," John Potter has the play-by-play and the game will be streamed live on DSC All-Access as well.

ALL-TIME vs. GCU: The two schools have had their share of battles over the years, but the Lopes lead the all-time series 5-9 overall. All five of the Red Storm wins over GCU have come at the Burns Arena (5-2), including the two years ago with both teams were nationally ranked.

LAST TIME OUT:  Coming off arguably one the biggest wins in recent years, the Red Storm defeated Cal Baptist on the road 63-56 despite committing a season-high 34 turnovers.
Led by Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial )'s 19 points and 16 rebounds and Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) 16 points off the bench, the Red Storm trailed 25-16 with 4:56 left in the first half and used a 14-6 run to help them overcame a slim 31-30 halftime deficit to defeat the Lancers.
In a game that featured just five lead changes, Dixie State used a 22-14 advantage of points in the paint an astonishing plus 17 rebounding advantage. The Red Storm managed to grab 11 offensive and 33 defensive rebounds to keep the Lancers from second chance points.
Kristensen continued: "I was extremely proud of the fact that we played though our mistakes.   We turned the ball over way to much but won that game because of our defense."
Shooting a solid 48.1 percent from the field and 12 of 16 from the free throw line, the Storm defense was suffocating and forced many errant shots on the night. The Lancers shot just 33.9 percent from the field.
CBU was led in scoring by Simone Holmes who finished with 20 points.
The Red Storm improves to 7-6 overall and remain at 5-0 in PacWest play. Their next challenge awaits them next week when they host Grand Canyon on Thursday night and travel back to Southern California for a battle with Azusa Pacific.

Erica Hayes
SCOUTING the RED STORM:  Dixie State improved to 7-6 overall and 5-0 in PacWest play.  Their win over Cal Baptist helped them snap their three-game winning streak and keep them atop the PacWest standings. DSC knows they will need to knock off the Lopes to have any shot of winning their first PacWest Championship. Coach Angie Kristensen has been adamant about taking it one game at a time. The Red Storm are led in scoring (12.5) and rebounding (11.4) by Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ).  She has a amassed a career-high seven double-doubles this season. But, Kaylah Miller (San Diego, CA/La Jolla Country Day) (11.1), Mandy Munns (Brigham City, UT/Box Elder)(10.3) and Erica Hayes (East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton)(10.1) each average in double figures and helped the Red Storm average 73.15 points per game. The Red Storm shoot 41.4 percent from the field, 30.1 percent from three-point range and 70.3 percent from the foul line. Rebounding has been a strong point with a +4.3 rebounding average over their opponents. Turnovers continue to plague the DSC offense, averaging 19.8, a minus 3.2 margin.

KRISTENSEN KORNER: “Everyone knows the rivalry we have had with Grand Canyon since we have joined the PacWest.  This is always an important game for us.  We know now we have a target on our backs because we are leading the conference.  Each and every game is no more important than the other.   Our goal was to win the PacWest and we know we have to beat GCU to do that.  We are going to focus on taking care of the basketball and dominating the boards.  These two things are key in order to win the basketball game!"

BROWN HONORED: Brown led the Red Storm to a 1-1 week by averaging 13.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game…ranked third in rebounding and 17th in scoring for the week in the PacWest…also ranked 17th in shooting after making 10 of 19 (52.6%) attempts from the field…averaged 3.5 steals per outing – eighth in the league for the week...shot 70.0% (7 for 10) from the line. She was the keystone to the Red Storm win over Cal Baptist.

NCAA STATS: Johnna Brown (Las Vegas, NV/Centennial ) currently ranks 8th in the NCAA in rebounding at 11.4 per game. She also ranks 10th in double-doubles with seven. As far as a team, DSC is 25th in assists per game (16.70) and 41st in scoring offense.

SCOUTING GRAND CANYON: Head Coach Trent May's squad has been ranked in the top-25 for the 41st consecutive weeks, dating back to the 2010-11 season. This season the Lopes are 12-4 and 4-1 in the PacWest. They are a perfect 8-0 at home and their one conference loss was to Cal Baptist last week.  GCU is led by junior Judy Jones who ranks tied for second in the nation with 10 double-doubles on the season and leads the team in scoring by averaging 17 ppg and 10.4 rebounds a game. Maylinn Smith is also averaging in double digits at 11.1 ppg. Grand Canyon can put points on the board (71.4 ppg), but they are 37th in the NCAA at scoring defense (55.9 ppg) and 21st in scoring margin (15.4). They shoot 42 percent from the field, 28 percent from three-point range, and 70.9 percent from the free throw line. Like DSC they also rebound well averaging 45.6 rebounds a game and 11.9 more than their opponents. Jones has led the Lopes in scoring in 10 of their 16 games.

KRISTENSEN on GRAND CANYON: “ They are an athletic team with lots of weapons.  Their have one of the best players in the conference in Judy Jones, so we must do a good job of containing her.  She has put up huge games this year.  Coming off a big win over CBU – we must maintain our focus this week and work hard.”
